I'm currently taking a women's multivitamin but I was interested in maybe adding a hair vitamin. I was wondering what a good brand was? I tried Maxi-Hair a few years ago and it made my skin break out. I've heard of Shen Min (I think that's how it's spelled) and I've heard that GNC has good ones. What vitamin did you have good results with?

I took biotin, silica, and msm for a while, but I never saw any benefit and finally stopped. I think that vitamins and other supplements will only work for you if you have the sort of deficiency which is really unusual.

A lot of women take supplements and say they saw a difference in shedding after 3-6 months. I'm skeptical. We all go through shedding cycles. I think that regardless of whether what you're doing is right or wrong, you will see eventually see changes in your shedding. If you're taking vitamins, you may attribute these changes to the vitamins.

I want to make one point vitamins or supplements do not make your hair grow faster. Vitamins and supplements help you stay healthy and in retiurn help to maintain healthy hair and skin. Vitamins make your hair stronger so most people do not experience as much breakage.

I do take multivitamins and they are not that expensive.

becareful not to take to many vitamins at one time because some vitamins can become toxic and may over work your liver.

Leale, you made a good point and actually I found out that one of the vitamins that does not mix well with a variety of others is zinc. I haven't had much breakage on my multivitamin but I though a hair vitamin wouldn't be a bad idea. I'm not really after fast hair growth, just healthy hair. Thanks for the responses though.

This is a good thread. I am sick of taking all the extra pills. I don't know if they are working or will work, but I do know that I have stress issues and have just gone through a really TERRIBLE year and that will deplete your system.

So two supplements (my multi and iron) are doctor recommended but the biotin, MSM, black current seed oil and silica are all hair related extras.

I am trying to give the hair supplements a chance to do something (besides make my nails grow like gang busters), but am not a pill kind of person and they are expensive! Your comments have given me some food for thought, so to speak

If you want to take vitamins, I recommend sticking with MSM. It's the only one that's actually been proven to make hair grow.

I've heard things about pure MSM versus MSM with fillers and stuff. I don't know which is better.
