ok, im not saying i dont understand that my hair is very different. But any hair dresser i go to who is black lectures me on how i should stop asking for more 'punk' hairstyles. I honestly believe its because they dont know how to do it. and instead of being truthful they just say my hair is unable to do it.

I'd really love if i could get some help finding other black metal heads and maybe see what types of hair styles they have. is anyone here willing to help me out?

What exactly are you looking for? Dyes? Cuts? Styling gels? You may have learn to do your own hair to get what you want.

Can you post a picture of what your hair looks like now, and what you're trying to achieve?

I'm not exactly a "black metal head", but I'm not against it and I have close friends who are. I think your hairdresser is telling you these things because she really doesn't know how to do it or even where to begin. You may want to get a second opinion elsewhere. She's wrong in saying our hair cannot do punk styles because it can and in most cases it can hold alot better than when people with fine hair do it. However, we have a tendency to have drier hair so there is potential for more damage IF not properly taken care of. Shop aorund at different salons. She may be your stylist, but the styles you are requesting may not be in her talents. You can always come back to her, but go to another salon or person who may know how to do these styles. Just make sure you have a consultation with whoever first. Hope this helps 666.

Are you trying to dye it as well? And by short, do you mean the spiky look?

heavy metal and punk rock is not popular among african americans.

since your preferred look is so unusual it makes sense to try to do it yourself. you're pretty much alone on this metal head trend.

Not true - I know several black metalheads. But then again, I live in a college town.

I don't think she's alone at all. There are plenty of African-Americans into punk rock and heavy metal. I don't think it'll be hard to achieve her look at all. Just because it's not in the majority does not mean it cannot be done and she's alone in doing so.

I think you can have any style you want. A true diva can rock any style. Don't do business with anyone who downs you style.

Have you ever tried getting your hair cornrowed ino a mowhawk? Get each side cornrowed right into the mowhawk and leave the middle hair (mowhawk) part out....or you can even curl it!

There are plenty of things you can do with your hair to fit your lifestyle...you may just have to be more creative because your hair is thicker! Don't let anyone tell you different!!!

I used to be seriously into the punk scene...I was the sister brave enough to die my hair red and shave the sides of my head (oh, to be young again...).
My hairstylist would have a heart attack everytime I'd come into the shop..he never knew what I would ask for.
Now that I've got a real job ,I'e grown my hair out and if someone tells me I shouldn't have long hair, honey, I just flip it in their face as I turn and walk away.
Metabolic, don't listen to other people in regards to your personal style.  You know what your hair can and cannot do, find someone who's experienced in the type of styles you want and go for it!

so, do you think she cares about being alone? she asked you for advice, in return you give her hate. thats exactly why blk gurls like me pick up a skateboard. sorry if we dont wanna look like police bait clones in $2 white tee shirts and commercial white air force ones. (YAWN) why do blk ppl have to look like drop out prototypes? if you liked alternative styles would you be willing to give up your stereotypical style, and not cared what people had to say about you?? I DOUBT IT... BUT IDK YOU SO I WONT JUDGE YOU! that's why i began looking for skater friends, black youth are almost always judgemental.  they accepted me w/o asking was i getting the new jordans. i used to wear all that bs, but now i wear just seven for all mankind, tripp, and volcom. WE DONT HAVE TO BE THE SAME OR AGREE WITH EACHOTHER TO LIVE AROUND oneanother.

MLK HAS BEEN GONE FOR A WHILE, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO LIVE OUR LIVES WITH OUT CRITICISM FROM OUR OWN PPL. WE HAVE ENUFF WHITES TO CRITICISE US, WE DONT NEED BLK HELP!!!

schewh! w/ all that said, anyways:

i'm a fellow blk punk/emo/skater and i've done it all with my hair, from dye, to spikes with superglue. i can help you. what do you want to have done with your short hair.

my hair is kinda like kelis hair and i wear it natural just like hers(w/ the colors too!). but i cornrow, dye, perm, and treat all types of hair.

hopefully i will be able to help.

cordially,

Getting back to the question, all hairdos start with the right cut. Have you considered going to a white salon just for a hair cut? Once you get the right cut, you can style it yourself. If you relax your hair, it's always best to go to a white stylist when your hair is in the first few weeks of a recent touch-up. The second week is ideal. After you get the right cut, you have to experiment with the right styling aids to get your hair to stay in place. You'll probably have to use more than one product, a product meant for white hair along with one for black. You have to remember that most white people wearing styles like this shampoo everyday then apply styling pomade. That usually isn't practical for us, so you'll have to experiment with the right routine for your hair type. I've seen black hair get this look. Search around for the right professionals that will help you. Then adapt what works for you. Good Luck!!!

Hello, my name is Shiry and I am new to this thread, and I have been browsing around different topics. I am shocked at what hairstylist you went to. You are aware that you are allowed a second opinion from other stylist. Find a person who will help you not deter you. good luck..... by the way I am a stylist
