I read on another message board about a way to promote hair growth is washing or wetting our hair every day or every other day. I'm sure conditioner washes are included as long as your hair is in a constant wet state. Supposedly by keeping it clean and moist the hair will grow quickly. I imagined if you used shampoo everyday it would dry our hair out like a weed but wetting it and conditioning it would work. Has anyone tried this? If not what do you think---would you want to try this at all??

carameldiva, do you use heat on your hair? How do you get it dry every day? My hair takes forever to dry so wetting it everyday it would probably always be wet.

I wet my hair quite a bit, not everyday but sometimes almost every day. Usually at night I wash my hair , since its freezing here, by the morning my hair is dry. i wake up and put in a moisturizer in. I'm sure having a clean scalp along with clean pores will promote growth. It may not be as soon as you want it, but it will happen.

In the summer, I wash my hair everyday, with conditioner washes.

O yeah, and I don't use heat on my hair.

wetting your hair has absolutely nothing to do with growth. Any hair that is on your head is totally and completely dead. The only way you can help out your hair growth is by a)what you put into your body..That means medications, food, etc will all affect your hair drastically and b) you can stimulate the follicles in your head by massaging your scalp daily for about 5 minutes...massage it with some cholestorol for added conditioning. This may help out your hair growth a bit. Also--have you tried prenatal vitamins..The type people buy over the counter when their pregnant..This helps soooo much with hair/nail health and growth...(ps: you dont have to be pregnant to take them)

Sara, thanks for the information although, I'm an nutrition and health nut myself. I watch every little thing I put into myself. However, I have heard women rave that by banishing the myth and actually washing our hair more frequently, it does help with hair growth. Food, vitamins, etc plays an important role, but I was wondering if this was actually a good technique not only for growth but diminishing breakage. I have not thought about prenatal vitamins, but is it okay if you're on bc pills?

I would think that if you wash your skin everyday to keep it healthy, that you should do the same for your hair.

I dont wash my hair everyday but i wash it every 2 days. I noticed that my hair grows faster if i wash it often. Instead of washing with a shampoo, i wash with a clarifying conditioner and do an ACV rinse often because noticed shampooing dries out my hair.

you are nasty if you don't wash your hair every day. nobody wants to see your greasy nappy stinky hair

shampoos is to strip your hair of dirt, buildup, etc. and while doing that--it strips it of your natural oils as well(which are important for nourishment)--conditioner is to artificially replace these oils and leaves a coating on the strand, as well as helping the cuticle lie down(resulting in softer shinier appearance)...Niether have absolutely nothing to do with hair growth..Many women shampooing your hair makes it grow simply because when you shampoo- most people tend to massage it on their scalp which stimulates your scalp and possibly hairgrowth...not the shampoo itself. It has nothing to do with what you put on your hair at all, JUST YOUR SCALP... Using a clarifying conditioner is actually really good to replace shampoo(you may want to use a regular shampoo every other day though)--especially for african american hair. Its not nasty. Its not good at all for your hair to be shampooed everyday unless its greasy, because your hair will start breaking off because the ingredients in shampoos are so drying...
Also--something else that will stimulate hair growth is to use a shampoo with mint oils in it and massage it into your scalp...The mint acts as an energizer.

Innamorata, I agree that shampoo can be drying if used everyday with many. However, I guess it depends on your hair type and how much oils your scalp is secreting. Some of us produce more than others and so washing (whether it be cont'd or shampoo) more often helps with keeping the buildup off, especially those who do oil their scalp. Thanks for your comments.

(As for the other person, your not nasty if you don't wash your hair every single day. Some people cannot or they will experience drying and breakage.)

Well there are different shampoos, I use a gentle cleansing soap called Dr. Bronners soap and it really is gentle, not harsh like a shampoo, its multipurpose too. I only use the Dr. Bronners soap once a week, in between time I do conditioner washes or just rinse my hair with water.

Thanks for reestablishing your findings on shampoo, there is more than one way to wash hair and hair shampoo is not the only element that can be used.
