Hey! Yeah My goal is to get to my bra strap right now I'm at my sholder blades. What I'm doing to get ther is Braiding my hair and leaving it for 3 to 4 weeks. This includes box braids(not to tight or small) and Larger cornrows with weave. The number one thing I'm doing is keeping my hair trimmed. I used to be scared of the scissors but now I've found out that they are my best friend! So yeah thats what I'm doing to reach my goal and it semms to be working very well!

My goal length is just a couple of inches. I am trying to trim my split ends and prevent them from coming back.

My goal length I guess would be brastrap, or angela davis fro or bigger. In the winter I wash my hair once a week, sometimes 2 times a week, put it in twists or protective style and then take them down the next week. I am trying to learn how to keep a style in for atleast 2 weeks but I never been able to do it. I big chopped in may with like 1.5 inches of hair and now the back is to my shoulders the sides is pass my chin.

Patience is my main key to getting there, eating healthy for over all health and just taking it one day at a time.

I am. Right now my short term goal is should length- currently at back of neck-sides are two inches past ear and front is touching the tip of my nose. My long term goal is bra-strap length. I am progressing slowly but surely. I ordered a phony pony- so i'm going to give that a try, currently taking my vitamins still, moisturizing once a day, doing the baggie method at nite, condition washing, deep conditioning and shampooing weekly.

I guess my goal is to grow it to see how long it can get since I never really tried the concept before and never took good care of my hair in the past but my main goal is to obtain even lenght all the way around. Right now it is pretty long about four inches above my bra strap in the back only. It really annoys me that the sides and top can't keep up. Part of the sides are past my shoulders but the front sides are only to my chin and shorter at the front most. The top middle is shortest. It seems to split more at the top I think because of the texture there.

Everyone has great hair goals! I think mine is about the same as most of you but I want to get my hair a bit below brastrap. Right now it is about an inch past my shoulders in the back and to my neck base in the front. My left side always grows faster so its a challenge but so far so good. I've been minimizing heat and doing the baggie method since the winter air near Lake Michigan is harsh. I lose alot of moisture when I'm out. I moisturize everyday and condition before and after I wash. I just found a great vitamin at Chinatown so I'll be adding that as well.

Hey, this is just a thought but did you ladies want to start a Grow Out Challenge?? We can check in monthly to see about our progress or problem areas, but also to offer support to those of us who are trying to reach a certain goal. If so, I'll post a forum for it.

My ultimate goal is bra strap. I'm growing my hair out from a super short cut so It's going to take a a few more years to get there. Hopefully I won't cut it before then!!!

Mrs. Robertson

How long are your twists/hair and how do u keep them in for 2 months? My goal is to keep mine in for 2 weeks, cause I take them down once a week and then when i make it pass 2 weeks, I can move to more weeks. So how long have you been keeping your hair in that long.

Please exscuse me, not trying to be nosey.

My hair goal for now is bra strap length.

Protective styles, less heat & the baggie method are helping me along greatly.

Hi!  My first post here!

My ultimate hair goal is midback somewhere between brastrap and waist.  I am currently less than a half inch away from brastrap length with 16 weeks of newgrowth- so flat ironed, I am there!

I am currently at shoulder/collarbone length and trying to implement only protective styles for the summer months. I am now doing all the protective styles I can think of , i.e., ponytails, twist-outs, air-dried roller wraps and buns. Soooooo.... using these methods I'll hopefully reach my goal in no time which is to have thick and healthy brastrap length hair!!

I'm trying to grow to waist length. I recently stretched my relaxer for 12 weeks and had 2.5 inches of new growth, so I guess that's good progress...almost an inch a month. I CO washed everyday for 70% of my stretch, used protein once a week, baggied at night (helped retain length), did protective styles. Now I am 2 weeks post relaxer, and I have started shampooing and conditioning my hair everyday, letting it air dry hanging down (or else it would never dry) and putting it into a protective style for the rest of the day. I still baggie at night.

sista I went to your fotki and your hair is beautiful! My younger sister's hair is about your length (Mine would be there too if it wasn't for cutting in 03.) and she doesn't take care of it well. I need to show her your album!! I hate to see great hair go to waste.

Also Sista, when your hair was about shoulder length, did you have trouble finding protective styles or styles to put it in when your new growth came in?? That is my problem right now and i'm 1.5 inches past shoulder length (maybe 2, i'm not sure.)

Well honeydoo- I have been wearing buns daily since I started my growth challenge.  My hair never really grew past the length it was in June.  (Which was a little past shoulder length).  . . I bunned even then.  Alternating between donut buns and just plain bantu knot style buns.  I always do the same routine after I wash--  I just wash, condition, apply a leave in, water based moisturizer, and finally seal with an oil.  I comb back into my bun and tie down the front with a satin scarf until dry. Usually15 mins.  My newgrowth dries flat and neat with the damp scarf method- even now at 16+ weeks post relaxer.

I am trying to grow my hair out evenly all the way around.  It keeps getting longer in the center of the back but the sides and front are noticably behind.  I've heard that hair grows 1/2 inch per month but I definately think mine grows faster. However, I definately have more breakage in the top center area which is frustrating.

I wanna join too ....I am a 4a who hasnt had a relaxer in 4 months because I have been getting doobies at the dominican salon once every 2 weeks and wear a bun in between...i get my ends trimmed every 6 weeks...i dont have any particular routine....when my hair looks dirly I wash it with nexus moisturizing products...my hair is at the middle my shoulder blades and my short term hair goal is just below the bra strap and my long term is to my elbows.....my mom is half sioux indian and she always says that you should cut your hair when the moon is waxing not waning; it makes a difference....

Lilpeach!! My mom is 3/4 Sioux (and cherokee and black) and we do the same thing!!! SHe gets mad if I trim any other time!! It does make a difference because when the moon is waxing is when things grow the best, not just hair. It's also when the tide comes in the strongest. We have a tendency to retain more water at this time too which can effect the moisture to our hair at this time. (It's neat to know my family isn't the only one who follow these traditions.)

So, you cut your hair when it's waxing because it will grow back faster and if you cut it when it's waning it'll seem like it's taking forever to grow?

I want to grow my hair to just about an inch above bra strap. I wash and condition my hair weekly and get my ends dusted after every touchup. I relax my hair every 16-20 weeks. Before I joined hair forums, I would relax my hair every 25-30 weeks, but I cant seem to do that anymore because it seems to be growing faster now with better care.
