Yuko treatment, or Chi processing. As far as I know, it is not compatible with the average African-American's hair...it's such a strong treatment that our strands do not hold well under the process. It is very expensive - price seems to be in the $600 range for people to have their entire head done, and it is not recommended that you get it done outside of a large city, due to the chances that your stylist may not be trained properly. Results vary immensely from client to client due to stylist. It does give excellent results, but hearing from people who have their hair break off systematically for weeks is enough to cool excitement. It can be done on black hair... not kinky hair though. If you have curly or wavy hair, you may get good results from it. I stick with regular old lye relaxers though. They have been working for me so I'm not switching.

japanese straightening is also known as, Thermal Reconditioning, and as stated before, it is expensive. This method is supposed to be permanent, but you would need to go back and get your new growth done once it grew in. The process reconstructs the hair bond. By cutting the hair's Cystine Bond (the bond that makes the hair hold it's curl pattern). Then going through a process of rinsing (in some cases washing), drying, ironing hair in small sections, then rinsing and conditioning the. This process can be used on most hair types, except African American. Although if African hair is "mixed" with any other ethnic type of hair it should work. African American hair is too fragile and cannot withstand the 180 degrees Celsius heat that is used in the ironing process. That is why "mixed" African hair should work b/c the other ethnicity tends to make the hair stronger. I hope this info has helped you some.
