I'm a male currently growing out my hair, its getting there, nearly an inch. I wear hats alot and i just wanted to know if wearing hats could damage hair growth, at 1st i was wearing hats and noticed some hair loss at the back, i had to increase my hat sizes and it has grown back, i just wanted to know if i could still wear hats and grow out my afro at the same time untill it is at least 1 1/2 inches by protecting my hair with a du-rag underneath the hat,
Would this stop hair loss,
any replies would be appreciated.

Yeah, wearing the hats for a prolonged time will definitely cause wear on your hair and eventually break off. You want to wear some type of protective wrap underneath your hat in either silk or satin. My nephew recently started growing his hair out and chose cornrows/braids to help. He wears them a week or two at a time and does a wash and condition before re-braiding. Also I don't know if you wear any protective sleepwear on your head at night, but you should it also helps stop breakage and will aid in the growth. HTH

Thanks for your answer, what type of protective headwear do you suggest i wear at night, i dont really like to sleep in durags because they leave my hair really flat, would a bandana be better,
Thanks again

You could sleep on a satin pillowcase.
