Does anyone know if it is bad to iron your hair with a clothes iron? My friend does it and her hair gets SUPER SUPER straight. I have a ceramic iron and it just splits my ends. I want to try it, but I first would like to know if it is bad for my hair.

I wouldn't worry about your hair - I would be more concerned about accidently or carelessly getting your face, scalp, ears or hands seriously burnt by the iron....

With a ceramic iron the hair is heated softly and evenly from the inside out, drying hair safely in a fraction of the time. Generally, a good ceramic iron runs over $150. It has a temperature control, the ceramic plates are even (no minor bumps) and has a clean finish. Has a good warranty. Most important, don’t forget to use a heat protecting product, such as ID CARE Silk Lotion each time before ironing the hair. In addition, do not set the temperature over 160 degrees Celsius/ 320 degrees Fahrenheit.
Clothes iron heating devices use Near Infrared Rays (NIR), the surface gets hotter than the interior, and the interior gets heated by means of conduction from the surface. This process creates frizzy, dry, and damaged hair. Finally, remember heat is heat, thus they can cause damage to the hair.
Actually, I totally agree with the previous poster, saying: “I would be more concerned about accidentally or carelessly getting your face, scalp, ears or hands seriously burnt by the iron…”

Yes i agree (surpirse surprise lol).
although it makes ur hair super straight, its bad in the long run. if u decide to do it for special occasions (providing u dont go too often) then it should be fine.
also, maybe u could put something on top of the hair that will not burn the hair so much but some material that is thin enough to allow the heat to get onto the hair.

who would even put a clothing iron even near their head... i think that is the most retarded thing i''ve ever heard!!! thats why flat irons were invented!! try the Chi flat iron, it works wonders! Try not to flat iron your hair EVERYDAY. do it every other day, that way its less damaging. if you decide to do it everyday, use a 100% pure ceramic flat iron.

Now, now, Miss Jill, don't be rude. I'm sure you've done some dopey things in your life, too.

How do you think people got their hair staight before hair straighteners???? Good hair straighteners are fairly new, like the last few years.
Ironing will be fine as long as you do it once in a blue moon. Be careful, I used to get my mum to do it over the ironing board before school, when I wanted it really straight.

my friend does that too, but with a clothes iron you can't get close to the scalp...try a CHI, Hai, or Corioliss ceramic flat iron....personally, I use a flat iron made of glass/mirror.

I dunno bout you, but i am NOT made of money like some of these girls are. You can possibly buy chi or a hai or another $$$ straightener, but i know tons of girls would get killed by their mother for waisting that much $ on something as stupid as a straightener. Don't get me wrong- im no "Never do anything, go all natural w/ ur hair" person, I straighten my hair almost every day. But there are some good- cheap straighteners. I have thick, curl/wavy hair that i hate and i found a straightener that works!! Its called Conair Ceramic technology and it was like 25$ at wal*mart. Try it... hope it works!!

Wasting money as stupid as a straightener? Are you kidding me? How is it stupid, tell me?
Hey man, we live to be happy. That's the number one purspose in life. That is what we want. So if it makes people happy if they buy a straightener and make themselves look good, then what the F**K is wrong with that huh? Besides, it is their money, not their mother's.

I recommend the Remington wet 2 straight. It's a great product, and you can get close to the scalp. Works like a charm - and best of all, only $29.99 from Harmon or drugstore.com

I have straight hair. If I use a Sedu to straighten my hair and make it straighter at some not too curled spots, would the affects last longer than if I had really curly hair?
