I am thinking about using a chemical straightening product in my hair. I heard someone say before that after you get your curly back that it won't look the same as it did before you used the product. So if that is true then I don't want to use the product. But if it's a lie then I would love to use it. But I need to know. PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you.

I've been straightening my hair for YEARS (about 18).First with a relaxer from the Dominican Republic that had alot of lye in it, then with American products that did not have lye, then with a thio straightener (One-N-Only at Sally's). I have to say that 1) your curl will NOT be the same, as the structure of the hair will be different and 2) if you are planning on getting it straightened get it done professionally (!!), remember that it is a committment to several things: cost of the treatment, maintainace of your hair because it will be damaged (there's no other way to chemically straighten hair except by breaking certain chemical bonds) and learning how to dry your hair without damaging it further.
REMEMBER: There is no "cure" for damaged hair, you can only wait until new hair grows in.
I don't mean to scare you, but I currently have "self-cutting" hair...that is hair that is breaking at the ends as if I have had a trim, anywhere from 1/4 inch to an inch. I've lost about 3-4 inches in length and it's breaking unevenly. I look like I have a really weird shag. I'll probably wind up cutting it really short...Thank God summer's coming!
