Does anybody know if the new "wet to straight" flat irons are really safe for hair? Remington and Vidial Sasoon both make these new irons to use while hair is still damp. They claim it's safe, but is it?

No. If blow drying isn't good for your hair, how can straightening your hair be safe? It's more harmful than straightening while it's dry. Simply because you put all the heat directly on it, it kind of combines the damage of blow drying and the damage of straightening all into one.

I recommend investing in a normal straightener if you were planning on getting on. It takes more time, but in the end, it's better than wet-to-dry.

I agree. Flat irons should only be used on dry hair because ... heat would make the water in the hair shaft turn to steam, and of course steam adds pressure, then parts of the hair shaft would swell and possibly burst. hence "exploded cortexes".

That, and the fact that ANY heat is bad for hair--even hot water.
