Does anyone really know if buying the more expensive hair products is always the best?? Dont they basically all have the same ingredients listed at the top, with a the exception of a few different ones in the middle of the ingredients list.

The ingredients in expensive products may be different and even more hair safe, but they may not give you better perceivable results than drugstore brands. For example I oftentimes see no noticeable difference between the results of silk protein and the results of a dimethiconol. Salon brands often have more unusual claims, on "advanced technology" in their ingredients, a new binder, a new coating that's supposed to "repair" the strand, but doesn't that sound as familiar as a drugstore brand's claims?

Frankly I think salon quality brands are for (a) the brand conscious or (b) those who really know hair chemistry and know how to pick and choose among ingredients. As for those who don't care or can't tell the difference, they're probably better off shopping in a drugstore.

Salon quality shampoos are definitely more gentle though, as most of them use an expensive cleanser called SLES (sodium laureth sulfate) as opposed to the ammonium or lauryl cleansers from drugstore brands.

my 2 cents.
