So, after everyone's AWESOME advice and help I've been researching everything I can about extensions. I called salons and got prices, and have realized that, because my hair is so thick, it's going to cost me about 1500 dollars total to do this for the summer. I have also decided that I don't care if they stay in when I go swimming, etc. because I will get straight hair extensions no matter what and my hair is curly (but looks straight when I straighten it)...so I'd look like I had a mullet! I'm thinking that the clipins are for me so I wanted to ask a little more advice before I invest in them.

1. Are they pretty much undetectable?

2. Is there anywhere I can get custom blended clips (my hair has 3 colors of blonds)

3. What are some of the best places to get clips from?

Whoa! what was the justification for $1500?

1.) Once you get used to attaching them and figure out good placement yes.

2.) ?  If you want bangs sara(plastikhaar) will make anycolor combo you want.  You might ask her about making custom clip ins who knows what wonders she might be bale to create.

3.) ????

Is plastikhaar the fake hair though? I'm gonna want to curl it and stuff sometimes so I need human hair. I may have just asked a dumb question though...

plastikhaar is fake hair.  Treated nicely it can be curled, and you can get it straight, wavy,or curly to begin with.

But even with HH, which I realise can be really expensive, what were they going to charge you for installation of strand by strand.  Or did you just call one place.  If you happened to call one place then I can believe that would be a quote but that's kinda crazy to me if you called around a bit.  Though location would make a difference.

Well, I called Austin, TX and NYC (I live in Austin but will be taking my annual trip up there at the beginning of summer) and everyone's price quotes were almost 1000 bucks or over that to do strand by strand. I'm used to things being good quality but I felt that was a little much, especially since I'm a college student! However, I just found the EasyXtend from http://www.Glamourhair.com - http://www.Glamourhair.com  and wanted to know if anyone had tried it? It's 300-400ish dollars for the clipins but they say you can color them (which is my dream to get them colored like my natural hair) is that possible and would these be a good purchase?

Ditto everything Mocha said. You don't need to pay $1000 for extensions, even if they're human hair, at all. Did you call the two Hairpolice affiliate names I listed? I would be very surprised if they're charging that much. Hell, Fina got a full head of heat seals for $285 (that was just for the service, but you can get perfectly good human hair for around $300). For good prices, though, you really need to do some research and ask around.

Nevertheless, you could order those clip-ins from glamourhair.com, but as I told you in ther previous thread, you'll get better quality if you make them yourself. Even if you don't want to make them yourself, that's understandable, but that price--$360 for 16-inch extensions--is excessive. Keep in mind those aren't even customized--you'll need to have them dyed to match your color and cut. Plus, 16 inch may not be long enough.

Anyway, SAS gave you a recommendation for Extensions Plus on the other thread, and if you wait till your hair is dyes, then send them swatches, that's probably a good option.

KD....i think 1000 is outrageous...esp if your hair is thick....are you trying to add length? cuz you probably don't need volume!! (trust me, i understand that one....)

if you look on Doc's site, there's a demo about adding wefts (the hair sewn to a thin meshy strip) by using microlinks....you sew the microlinks to the weft, and then thread portions of your hair through the microlinks and clamp it shut.  "semi-permanent" b/c of the links, but i would think the take down on that style would be rather quick...unclamp all your rings and you're done.  you'd have a more secure weft extension than the clipin.

and...you can make them yourself!  your expense would be getting the three different colors of hair...or getting one lighter color and lowlighting it to match the other two colors you use.  a weft of 18" long hair is somewhere around 50-60 inches...you snip apart what widths you need for your head, dab a DROP of nail glue on the cut end of the weft, sew on your links and you're ready to install.

because your hair is thick, you have a little more leeway b/c even tucking all of your hair up, the thickness of your natural hair would cover your rings and weft strips.

if you can sew a button....you can attach those rings!

I do agree that the price is ridiculous. I've decided that I'm going to just go with the clips. Thanks for that site info, I'm definately going to email her and ask her advice as well. I want to ask for them for my birthday (i'll be 21 and want to be hot and blonde of course!) but my parents don't like extensions so I'm going to have to get the money myself. I think in the long run the clips will be cost effective.
