AMM is selling me her PH curls, so I get to spend this weekend doing my favorite thing in the whole world...pre-tipping  I think I will try to use latex glue - gorilla glues seem to get too hard for me ( at the end) LG - don't have any and it is too messy...maybe we should put together a glue sticky topic.

What is everyone's favorite?

Octavia

PS - THANKS AMM!!!

I really like LG but I think that may be because I have access to trichlorethene, the last ingreident in it.  I can add more when I gets gummy and it goes right back to being thin and happy and not nearly asmessy as when its starts to dry.

I highly reccomend LG expecially if you want to spend $20 for some thinner (TCE mentioned above) to keep it happy.  The $20 will get you enough to keep a couple hundred bottles of LG happy.  I did some experiments with it worked just as well after I messed with it as it did before.

Some of my tips were barely int he shrinkies when my husband shoved the heat clamp on (or he knocked them slightly loose) and with LG the tips seemed to stick with heat even without the shrinkie being firmly attached.

I may even try an installation in the future where I use still tacky LG tips and heat and no rings or shrinkies....

That's my buck fifty

Hey Mocha:

I have done the tacky LG tips and heat and no rings or shrinkies. It is a GREAT *TEMPORARY* install and nearly undetectable.  But be warned - those things will RIP your hair right out at the root. . .it's the same as what happens when your fusion extensions start to get old.  I went back over my LG-only tips with shrinkies because I didn't want too many bald spots. .

Fina - How does it make a difference if you use the same amount of hair whether you use a shrinkie or not in terms of ripping right out of your head?  I can see why it would be more temporary...

I prefer latex, I am not a pro tipper (yet) so the tips can be a bit longer then the ring and when the tip has lg on it, its sooo hard and it smushes into my head.

I like latex because you can just pull it off, even after it dried.

So much information on this board. We should write a book!! RoseRose, do you get much shedding with the latex? What brand do you use?

I think a little melting is a good thing if you are using shrinkies, it seems to stay longer - at least in my hair.

I think that the LG tip starts to come undone from the hair, and as soon as you have that situation, you are more likely to "catch" the tip e.g. in a hairbrush, and pull it out, along with the remaining hair attached to it (which is less) altogether.

I found this to be the case with GL extensions as well -- as soon as there wasn't enough hair for the extension to hold on to, the remaining hair would just rip out. Hope this makes sense.

Makes perfect sense.  Its not that initially there is a probem its just the way they wear.

I haven't had fusion but I thought keratine glue never let go of anything ever without pliers and glue dissolver and patience and...

Great Lengts is just reguler keratin fusion right?

I thought that, too, but am pleasantly surprised to find that it is much more forgiving than I had been led to believe. It comes out in a snap with pure acetone from the BSS. Just crack the bond a bit with either your fingers or pliers, spray with acetone, work it a bit with a piece of cotton and I swear the thing is out in 20 seconds.

HAve you always done fusion Syren?  (oh and your sample went out yesterday as planned assuming I had adequate posted and it didn't get returned to me)

Do you think it is less detectble than rings/shrinkies?

I know its less detectable than pinch braids, seems like everyone says so.

But its much harder for a DIYer right?  I shied away simply cause of the fusion horro stories I 've heard.

I've NEVER done fusion before last month. I've always worn sewn in wefts. Forever. But I tried shrinkies and did not have success. Then I read Kristin's website (haircandy.net) where she talked about how she does fusion and has worn it for years with no damage. So I got the sticks and a glue gun and gave it a whirl. It works GREAT for me - really great. I have my son put in hair that I have pretipped with glue. He uses Doc's heat wand and it turns out really well. I am really, really surprised how well it works and comes out very easily, just like Kristin said.

I think the bonds less detectable than shrinkies, but that's because we put 'em in a certain way (flat).

Thanks for the hair. You should be getting yours pretty soon. And since pulling out that WaWa to send you, I'm rethinking Wawa...it looks really good!

Octavia,

Try tipping the hair with the epoxy as Marie suggested.  I did a few test piece that way and I found it to be a lot less messy than LG or fusion glue.

metalgirl - did you use the same epoxy as Marie did or a similar 5 minute that you found handy?  Also how big do you make your tips?  especially if they are rectangular not round I'm really interested for my late summer install.

Welll, I can say LG is NOT my favorite. I'd rather use latex or keratin. I think I'm going with Syren and gonna do direct fusion next time.

Oh yeah...I thought I'd repost this technique of Bridget's
