So I have read a lot of topics in this forum and I think all the advice is amazing! It is nice to know that there are girls out there willing to give the beginners advice. My question is when doing fusion hair extensions how many pre-tipped hair bundles should be placed in each row? Also, for a full head, how many rows do you guys recommend?

| That was one of my recurring questions (which I just asked today in another topic). I think the answer really depends on how thick the person's natural hair is, how thick they want the end result to be, the composition of the extension hair, and the size of your strands. I think a lot of people add hair in until it looks right. That's what I do as well, but I'm always curious to hear the average of what other people do, at least for comparison anyways. |

I think with fusion people typically do slightly larger sectioning than with some of the other methods(I could be wrong I'm not a fusion girl). Also some people go all the way to the hair line in the back if they know they won't be wearing their hair up which yields a couple extra sections per row. I have shrinkies in right now. I just counted the row that is even with the top of my ears. I don't have anything for an inch from the hairline on either side and have 16 sections. But everyone has slightly differently shaped heads as well. near the nape I have only like 8 or 10 in a row. for the u shaped section all the way around from eyebrow to eyebrow I'm sure it's closer to 25. I didn't actually count ths time but I'd guess that I have 250-300 sections on my head this time around. They are about 1/4" square. Some a little smaller near the hairline where I was attaching far less hair. hope this helps :)al |

It really depends on a few things amber....how stong / healthy the customers hair is, how thick / how many layers and what they require eg, volume, length or length and volume. You will learn this with practise. x |

| I tried shrinkies once and hated them. The attachment site was too bulky, plus getting them out was HELL.....all the glue residue! My method of choice is definitely fusion. You can adjust the bond size to suit your needs, and the glue is the easiest to remove. Plus, you don't have to spend a million hours pretipping. I know a lot of girls here LOVE shrinkies, but I am one of those girls who LOVE fusion! |

I was thinking of pretipping some bits of hair (nail hair) to do closer to the hairlines, in very very small sectioning, so I would have a dual install of shrinkie and fusion, but last time i had it the glue got all crackly on me and looked like dandruff (eww) - I know it wasnt from shampoo and such cause I only washed about once a week, is there any glue you coulg recommend that doesnt dry out like that?

Kalika, What you are describing with it getting crackly and looking like dandruff is what happens when the remover is applied to fusion glue (keratin, not wax based glues like Torain). Perhaps there was a chemical in something that got onto your hair that was similar in molecular structure to the remover. Or perhaps it just wasn't a very good glue. In any case, I have been using X-10 from Kristin's website. I'm quite satisfied with it. Ofcourse, there has been some minor deterioration of some of the bonds leading to a few strands coming out, but that's to be expected with ANY type of strand by strand method. Overall though, I'm quite satisfied! |

I haven't had that experience, but I have noticed that if you get a small amount of glue further away from the main bond site, it will eventually over time kind of turn opaque and start to come unstuck to your hair. Same thing will happen to the entire bond (and can become a bit crumbly) if not enough glue was used. To overcome these problems, use more glue and make the bond very neat (as in don't let a little bit of glue spread too far away from the bond site when rolling). These are just my experiences when experimenting with different amounts of glue. |

Well, I think it is WAY easier, especially if you pretip the hair with keratin first, then install with the wand later. Way, way easier cuz you only need 2 hands instead of 3. But...then that's fusion. Around here, that can be somewhat of a bad word (although I really like it). Shrinkies can certainly be easier to do on the back of your head once you get the right set up going with mirrors/cameras etc., and get some practice. Better yet, train your husband/boyfriend/12 year old to do them on you. That's a strategy several of us have tried with much success. Don't give up! DIYing is a challenge which CAN be met! |
