I just received my packet a few weeks ago...I'm planning to take the Basic class,first of May in Atl,Ga... but I wanted to know if I would be able to order the Avant Garde video before? Wasn't sure of their policies and couldn't reach them by phone, nor received any email replies. Just wondered if anyone could help out on this! Thanks |

I don't think you can purchase from them before you do
the class. Are you calling 1-877-940-4247. (mon-fri)........you want to talk with Angie. They always pick up right away, I've never had any problems reaching them by phone.

I was going to attend the Prostyles class with SAS in LA today, but I transferred myself into the May 15th class in San Francisco because it's only 2 hours away from my house whereas LA would be a 7 hour drive. It's hard to wait 6 more weeks! I do have this feeling though that I will like the thermofibre better than the monofibre hair. I don't think that the thermofibre can be utilized in the Prostyles method, because it really doesn't melt to heat seal the braid like the monofibre does. Does anyone know if that's the case? |

I don't know, but I would think so. I imagine the therm has a
significantly higher melting point, so perhaps if you heat the hair for
longer or on a higher temp., it would work. It's a good question,
though.... :) |

This is EXACTLY what I've been thinking about lately and here's the deal. The thermofiber melts at above 350 degrees F. . . so I dunno. . .maybe some of those tools are fairly industrial ? There must be some other way to do the seal, because Bettie says she can do her braids using human hair too. . .I'm going to call her on Tuesday to set up my appointment for May, so I'll ask. . . Fina |

180 C = 356 F My heat wand from Docs goes to 180 C. Seems
like it would be cutting it really close to get Thermo to work with
that particular tool on heat seals. Then again melting isn't
exactly how heat seal work right? You get it hot enough to let
the plastic chage form but there are still obvious strands they're just
not very strandlike anymore right? Anyone have a heat wand that gets hotter than this? |

What is the difference between the mono and thermo synths? Is WaWa thermo & the Plastikhaar mono? I'm getting confused now... doesn't take much  !

Hey Bridget, PlastikHaar, Dome, Prostyles, and Trimco are all monofiber, while Wawa, Hot Stuff Fusion, Ebonyline Adore, American Dream Thermal, and OPH are all thermofiber. The difference seems to be in the melting point--thermofiber has a higher melting point and, as such, would be less likely to fry if you use metal hot tools like curling irons and flatirons. The monofiber, because it has a lower melting temperature, is more heat-sensitive and actually curls easier, I think, but is more likely to fry. Because of the lower melting temperature, it's often used for heat-seals (aka the Dome and Prostyles) method, which requires that the hair be melted in on itself. Thermofiber may also be heat-sealable, but the jury's still out. :) |

Experiement done! I turned my Docs clamp all the way up and braided a little bit of HSF into a Wawa weft. then pulled out a little bit of one strand (tried it with each type) wrapped and held that heat clamp on for like 15 seconds. I now have a few very tight curls in my wawa and HSF. I also did one with PH just for reference and 180 is definitely too high in about 2 seconds everything was full on melted and the Little piece I had done the wrap with broke off under the tension of holding the wrap tight. |
