Over or under moisturizing hair can cause what dermatologists call fiber moisturization imbalane which can cause dry, unmanagable, dull, brittle hair.I don't know how you would know if your overmoisturizing or undermoisturizing because the symptons are the same.

Interesting, I actually did not know you could over-moisturize! Oops, I hope I haven't been doing that.

I googled on this. I found exactly 8 sites, all of which were plugging Dove products. No other mention. They actually claim that half of American women are "suffering" from this condition which can only be cured by the purchase of Dove product. Right.

Caveat emptor.

I think when you condition your hair too much it gets gummy or something. I've never had this problem because my hair is dry though.

Layla used a perfect word: gummy. Oh, and gooey. sticky. or crunchy.

But really, you'd know if you overconditioned.

Agreed, Anais.  And sometimes, the symptoms of overconditioning can mimic the symptoms of under-conditioning -- dry and tangly.  Repeated applications of that acidic rinse (one after each S&C) can help discern the difference.

Wow ... I was not aware that you could actually over condition your hair.  I put my hair through hell with blow dryers, flat irons and hair dye so I condition my hair every single day with "intensive restoration" conditioners.  I hope I'm not ruining my hair with all of the conditioning I'm doing...but I feel as though its necessary because of what I put my hair through.  So far my hair seems to be in OK condition ... ughhh, this is so confusing!!!

Oh yes, hair can be overconditioned.  But given the "hell" you put yours through, your hair likely has a higher threshold for the condition.

lol...yes for the time being it seems that way.

But just to clarify ... the "hell" I put my hair through is not nearly as "hellish" as it sounds.  I never used to used ANY heat or chemicals on my hair and now that I've started pretty much ANYTHING I do to my hair I think is "hellish."  I should have never started ... ::sigh::
