Since a lot of us having been playing around with various kinds of
synth hair lately--many of us for the first time--I was curious as to
which brands people are liking, which ones they're not liking, and how
they're liking or disliking synth compared to human hair.
So, for example, if you're liking A brand better than B brand, why, and
what do you think the differences so far between kinds of hair, like
mono and therm, or textures, such as wavy v. straight.
I know we've discussed this piecemeal on other threads, but I thought
it might be helpful for anyone who's still experimenting or anyone
who's thinking of taking the synth plunge but wants to get an overview.
I've got an auction closing in 2 minutes, but I'll chime in pretty soon, lol!

I was just looking for this information.
- How does curly hair hold in synth hair, does it loose curl?
- Does synth hair work with shrinkies as far as withstanding the heat needed to seal the shrinkie or will it make the synth hair melt?

Whew...OK, I'm back...let's see.
Are you glad you decided to try synth?
Definitely.
Do you plan to stick with synth in the future?
Absolutely.
What synth hair have you tried?
Plastikhaar and Dome; have various therm samples that I'm planning to try.
What differences have you found between brands?
Between Dome and PH, very few, if any; PH is of course a better deal
and wider selection. On sight, of all the thermal I have, the WaWa
straight looks the best so far.
Which do you prefer: monofiber or thermofiber?
Can't say, as I haven't tried the therm yet.
What texture(s) do you prefer or dislike?
I've only worn the 50mm and the Dome Classic, and I love them both.
What are the biggest advantages of synth?
(This only applies to monofiber)
1. For me, it requires less care/styling time overall.
2. I can get a longer, fuller look with it.
3. Price is right.
4. Holds up just as well, if not better, than most human over many weeks.
5. Can go long periods without washing and styling and it still looks good.
6. Consistency.
7. Responds to hot roller and boink styling better than human hair.
8. Colors don't fade.
What are the biggest disadvantages of synth?
(This only applies to monofiber)
1. The hair can get a bit stiff feeling; it doesn't look bad, but it's
not as soft after a few washings as human hair (unless you steam it).
2. Ends have a tendency to get a bit ratty over time and must be steamed, trimmed, or blown dry.
3. Using a curling iron or a blow-dryer to vigorously may fry the hair.

okay I'll kick in my two cents.
Because monofiber (PH) takes more work to make take curl I think it is
less likely to get kinkedup when you aren't being careful with your
curling devices as compared with therm (Wawa).
The flipside is You definitely need to maintenance the PH curl more often.
NO problem with shrinkies for either.
I've only used 50mm and straight wawa that I curled.

Hey Luz,
There are a lot of variables involved (what type of synth hair, what
type of curl), but the short answer is yes, the wave/curl generally
loosens after a few washes, so you need to reset it with hot rollers,
for example. Or at least this is the case with monofiber--the wave/curl
may last longer in thermofiber; I'm not sure.

Interesting, Mocha. I would've thought it was the other way
around--that mono was easier to curl but more subject to getting fried
(due to the lower melting temperature).
I'm so confused....

well all Ive used thus far with any quality has been since.....defintly like Wa Wa better then Dome but that's only cause I tangled my dome up.....had I gotten it profesionally done I might feel differnt

Jenny it isn't fried exactly. Its that since the thermo takes the
curl so well you have to be super careful not to get it warm when its
in a non flattering position... Say a kinked up boink

I think that I prefer the WaWa over PH - even though the Wawa needs to improve on color and lenght selection - I like the fact that I can curl it and take a shower without having the curl drop out. I still seem to be having problems with the type of curl that I want...but hey we can't have everything. I miss the softness of real hair though.

WaWa over Freetress. WaWa over Ebonyline. WaWa over Dome.
Although I haven't worn Dome, I do have a sample and I believe in
its former life it was a bale of straw.
WaWa has length and color limitations. Need more selection there.
User mileage may vary when it comes to length of time worn. I,
personally, get every cent's worth out of its $7.99 price in wear. I do
not like the way the ends take on a wirey/frayed fabric effect after a
while.
Curling and straighteneing is spectacular (as I have demonstrated).
Flocked rollers are superior over a curling iron with this hair.
Waiting for PH but I anticipate some major challenges wearing loose
synthetic extensions > 24". Long hair = tangle issues. No getting
around that but I'm up for the challenge.

Hi ladies! I didn't fall off the face of the earth...it just feels like I did!
Anyway, since I do highlights rather than a full head of extensions,
I'm less picky about my synth. I love PH for the vast color
selection, and it blends fairly well with my hair. While WaWa and
OPH are nice, they just don't come in the colors I want at this time.
I usually wear my hair straight, but when I use hot rollers, the PH
curls nicely, too. My one remaining streak (yes, I still haven't
had time to put in more) is getting a little frazzled at the ends after
three weeks.
PH is inexpensive, comes in more colors than I could ever want, and
doesn't fade. My only problem with it is that it is a pain to
deal with in bulk. It will probably take me longer to comb out
the hair to pretip than to actually install it!
