I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was ok to dye your roots
when you have microlinks/extentubes in, but cant for the life of me
find a specific post. so thought I'd double check. it wont hurt the
extensions if I do that will it? anything I need to know/do? TIA  ~Jenn~ |

I think it should be OK. I wouldn't use those post-dyeing conditioners near the roots, though, as they could cause slippage. :) |

so there isnt any danger of the dye getting down in side the micro
rings and eating away at my own hair? or reacting in some way with the

| I do color and even bleach around the shrinkies or rings, but you just need to rinse the hair a lot. It's never created a problem. |

What's your bleaching process, Kailka? Which bleach and developer are you using, and how long do you leave it on? I doubt having the shrinkies in would cause the breakage in and of themselves. If you had the breakage when you were removing the shrinkies, or the bleach was trapped in there and caused the hair to break because of overexposure post-facto, I would say it was the shrinks, but if it broke off uniformly, even on the strands where you didn't have the shrinks, I tend to think it's the product or process. :) |

no I dont think it was the shrinkies themselves, but prehaps some bleach didnt wash out? I used "pure white" bleach and 30 vol devoliper for 30 minutes, washed out as best I could, then let air dry which took forever, then brushed out and took chunks of my hair with it. Its the first (and last haha) time bleaching with extensions in |

Man, that sucks. So you've used the same process and products with success in the past, but with the extensions in, it fried your hair? Sounds like it could be the shrinkies after all. How did you decide on the 30 minutes? Did you just wait until it reached yellow or pale yellow, then washed it out? I assume you didn't overlap with previous bleached areas too much. If you're worried about doing this again, Kalika, I would suggest visiting the http://www.network54.com/Forum/127834?it=0 - Going Blonde Board and explaining what happened in a post there. They might be able to make some suggestions. There's one guy in particular there, Rick, who's a cosmetics chemist and is incredibly helpful with the mysteries of hair color. He's been very helpful with many of my posts in the past. OK, I'll stop playing Mom now--I'm sure you know what to do with your hair. I think I'm just worried for you and looking forward to seeing your next install, of course. Although I still love the mohawk! :) |

hehe yeah Ive used that before, no I didnt overlap. now I think about it, the only thing I can think of was that some got trapped. Besides Im done with blonde. Im going red next. Matrix redlights, here I come! |

oooh serious red Kalika! I've colored with micro rings. But I was only using semipermanent. (10 vol delveloper yada yada). And I only colored for grey coverage (why am i in my 20's with like 25% grey hair WHY!!!!!????!!!). so I didn't have to worry ab out the color not getting in the rings and leaving a weird tell tale line. Well I didn't have to worry as much cause I colored right before the install too. I'm using 12 wash stuff right now with my shrinkies. Not sure why I'm mentioning that. Must be board deprivation from being busy last night... |

oh man, i don't think red is easier to maintain and i'm a natural redhead!! seriously, reds fade sooo fast - i have to color every four weeks to keep my greys at bay....and my roots grow in dark, but then turn if i'm in the sun, so keeping color even is the next thing. i've had the best luck with Nutrisse color Mango, but it's still a little on the orangey side. ------------- has someone been swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool again? |

| Kalika - I would sooo recommend the ARTec Red shampoo - I used to have the Matrix redlights (which I loved) but it is very hard to keep up and fades fast - on me, I have naturally medium dark brown hair, would start to turn orange. The ARTec helped keep it up. |

Pepperoni and Burgundy rot sounds beautiful. Can't wait to see pics. Is your boyfriend going to install it again? Did we ever figure out if it's safe to dye with the extendtubes in? With all the extendtube users here, I'm thinking someone has done this before. :) |

| I touch my roots every 2 weeks with microlinks in. When I've removed the links there is a residue build-up, but nothing that's caused any problems; However, I could see where bleach would be trouble. |
