ooooooooookay, so about 8:30a i decided i had the right frame of mind and a hot cup of coffee....we were shrinkying today.

you definitely need a clear shot of the back of your head...but between doing the sides looking into the mirror and doing the back in the reflection, i actually found the reflection easier!  maybe i'm just backwards.

i don't know how many installed...only one slipped during heating, so i just reshrinkied and left the old one on.  Some didn't sizzle...we'll see how 'bad' that is.  I only burned myself once...my ear - damn things get in the way!  Consdering i got #27 Strawberry Blonde and it was a LOT blonder than red, i had to dye it....i got a fairly decent color match to my own.  I think i have ~10" on each tip.  the only thing i am dissatisfied with right now is the 'thinness' between the ext. on the bottom and where my real hair cuts in.  I think tomorrow i will add one or two more rows in the back and over my ears.  I have two rows over my ears right now and 7 or 8 rows up my nape.  My 16yo daughter says it looks great, my hubby likes it but keeps looking at me (i've NEVER had long hair after i was 5!), and my almost 15yo son is just shaking his head...as i keep harping on him to trim his beard tonight.

so....some 'tips'.....

...y'now that shrinkie you JUST installed next to the one you're trying to put in??? it's HOT.  it will be hot long enough to burn your fingers and you'll do that a few times...each time saying "doh!"

...the longer your natural hair is....the more difficult it is to pull through a shrinkie....and the more likely you'll tangle...that small toothed rattail comb is great for combing the hair IN the shrinkie before you shrink it.

...don't bother trying to find the dropped ones on the floor...you'll find them next week when they stick between your toes.

...start early in the morning, give yourself plenty of time...and don't plan on going out that night unless you really think you're pleased.  I washed my hair tonight after i got done gardening (yea...that was AFTER i did the shrinkies all morning! i have jello arms), and while it looked great this after noon, dry and all curled and styled....i look like a wet dog tonight.

...BOINKS are WONDERFUL!

...a child who brings you more hot coffee should be praised.
unfortunately, neither of mine THOUGHT OF THIS....instead taking to their rooms or playing on the computer most of the morning.

at least they were 'outta my hair'....[groan]

i'll post pix as soon as Britt takes the 'after' pix.

so i think i'll be checking in w/ Amm here within a month or so.  I like the look of those extra long ones.

id just like to chip in something... i was so worried when i had my shrinkies in of damaging my hair and i know thats always a main concern especially for newbies..well i am glad to say that i took my shrinkies out today to get ready for my clip ons im going to make...and guess what!  No damage! well ok i did pull a little hair out but thats because i got impatient i think..it wasnt anything to be concerned about at all...so if a complete newbie can install these suckers and take them out with no damage then i just think thats awesome!

 on your awesome install mto

I'll be curious to see what you think about the removal with the pretipped shrinkies.  I definitely find that more challenging that just a shrinkie/tip removal.  Also had some hair breakage, but nothing major.
