Just kidding !!

But I am sure I have lost hair from all the stress of getting hair extensions for the first time.I have been reading these boards for about 2 months off and on.. and about 3 weeks straight now.At work at home when ever I can.I have went from wanting human hair to synth.

I have been happy for you guys, mad with you guys(not at you but at the things you have had to go through) and filled with horror from some of your stories. I would like to say thank you to Jenny,Mocha,Rose,Syren, Amm, Metalgirl,Sas and all the others I know I have missed for all your insight.

Now for my question. I know I have read about each one somewhere on this board but my mind is fried from doing this for 2 months and can't find anything anymore..LOL

I need to know the best way to put synth in other than braiding..

Do I need to pretip it?

Where do I get it?(I am in Canada)Or anywhere else that will let me order it.

Which is the best kind?

How much will I need for a full head?(I have fine  hair almost to my bra line)

I think that is it.. Now I will have all my info in one place and my hair can stop falling out from stress!!

Thank you so much for all your help!

Tigger

Thanks for saying Thanks! Some new people come here and start demanding answers without reading the faq or even saying Please or Thank You.

Yes pre-tip, it can be a PITA but there is a very helpful faq on doing it.

I use microrings from drlocks.net and extendtubes from hairpiece.com.

Very easy to use.

Do you want straight curly or wha? Plastikhaar has the most variety of colours and you can get it in straight -> very curly.

There is an ebay seller: vixenwings that sells a high quality synthetic.

Welcome to the board,

Rose

I'f your hir is already to your brastrap how long are you going? And how thick is this fine hair?
definitely pretip.  it makes life so much easier.
Do you wear your hair curly?
Do you use heated appliances regularly?

vixenwigs only goes to 20" in wavy and 22" in straight so you'll gain maybe from brastrap to waist if you are lucky.  More likely to elbow length.  But the wawa from vixenwigs styles with heat easily

Similarly for hsf and ebonyline

PH comes curled or straight and come really long (48" bulk).  It's a finer textrue which will likely be a closer match to your hair.  There's something about it that I just like beyond the colors.  But you have to be careful with the heat.

all these can be orderedonline to Canada to the best of my knkowledge.  What color ar eyou going for some have better matches to different natural colors than others.

Also since you are in Canada do they have Feria R76 on the shelf yet there?  (Power red: Spicy Red)  Feria made a big announcement about it but the only place I can find it is at an online canadian drugstore....

back to your hair.

ummm fillin the details and so will we!

Thank you for answering!

My hair is staight..(which I hate) as for thickness I would have to say it is not thin not thick so I guess normal.. maybe alittle closer to thin.. All I know is it is not full or thick enough for me..LOL I spend 2 hours curling it with a 1 inch curling iron to get a loose fall out body curl. Damn hair.

I would love to have hair like the new picture of amm's co worker I think it is. Even if I have to perm or do whatever to my own hair first.

I have went on the PH site and can't see the normal colors or find the textures. But would love to maybe get in on your group order.Do you know if they have everything there I need for pre tipping and such?

Mocha.. Is Feria R76 a hair color? If so which chain of store did you find it in? If I can get my hands on it I would be happy to send you some no problem.

I don't think sara (PH) sells the right stuff for pretipping but I'll check.  Finding the natural colors shouldn't be too hard.  Jenny is the only one who can remember the addy for the texture page on PH.  but you can only get 28mm and 50mm and straight without special order.

Feria R76 is a hair color by L'oreal that here you can get every color in the line except R76 (that is R74, R77 whatever) in most drugstores (Walgreens, Brokks, CVS, Eckerds etc) and some grocery stores.

If you are going to perm your own hair then PH is fine.  If you need to be able to access your own hair for the curling iron daily you might want wawa or another therm.  Though if you want to use rollers then you are all set either way.  The PH can only handle a lower heat and only for so long before it fries.  I have nearly stick straight (it is when I comb it while wet) hair and wear 50mm with it quite convincingly without curlingmy own each day.  the ends of the recent amm coworker install are a slightly tighter curl than 50 mm.  But you can tighten up the curl on PH on the ends before installing it using some flocked rollers just on the ends.  Or just slightly blow out the top part of 28mm before install.

Hope that helps.  We'd love to have you in on the bulk order but only if it's going to be the hair you want/need!

Welcome!

The link for the PH store is: http://plastikhaar.ch/wholesale/index.php?cPath=40_25 - http://plastikhaar.ch/wholesale/index.php?cPath=40_25

If you're shopping for synth, you're basically looking at a choice between two types of fiber: monofiber or thermofiber. There are some differences between the two, as well as many similarities (we're still trying to figure all the nuances out ourselves, I think).

But yeah, for monofiber, I'd recommend PlastikHaar first and foremost. Failing that, there's Dome. But Trimco is out if you want waves (they only sell straight) and Prostyles is only available to licensed stylist in the U.S.

For thermofiber, your best option is WaWa from Vixenwigs on eBay. The American Dream (AD) catalog is also intiguing, but we haven't had much luck getting good customer service or the full range of products we expected with them yet.

As a former HH wearer and happy synth convert, I will say that I think synth (at least the PH/Dome I've been using) is superior for adding a lot of body and fullness to limp, thin hair. It tends to be a bit stiffer and holds a style a bit better than HH extensions, which in general, tend to be a bit thin for my liking. The advantage of HH is that it can be smoother, if it's good quality and holds up well (which is a big "if").

Good luck, and keep us posted! :)

Edited to say: Oh yeah, beyond braiding, I would definitely recommend extendtubes or shrinkies for DIY. :)

Ok.. Now how many packs of Wawa do I need .. Is it the Braid or weft stuff? Same applies for the PH.. Need to decide fast so i can get in on the PH order if needed.

Thank you once again for all your help!

braid vs weft is a personal choice for a variety of reasons.  weft is a little more expensive but is easy to handle when pretipping.  In wawa wefts you can get up to 20 in straight or curly.  I haven't tried using a full weft yet so I'm not really sure how far it would go.

you can get a little more length out of the wawa braid hair.  But handling bulk is trickier.  Totally doable i started with bulk b ut it is honestly trickier.

What color do you want again?  Can't seem to find it anywhere...

how many colors are you going to do to get a good blend to your own?  if you do two colors (27/613 or 2/4 or whatever you get the idea) you probably want about 2/3 one and 1/3 the other.  If you go for three colors its like 1/2, 1/3, 1/6.  So you'd need a whole pack of that third color even though you won't use it this install.  But it will be happily waiting for you next time.

I just got some wawa from vixenwigs (I have no idea when I'll actually use it) and got 6 full wefts.  Now I doubt all that hair will go on my head at once.  But it gives me a couple different lengths (I'd have cut some of it shorter before it went on my head so I may as well not spend the extra cash for length) and 4 different colors to play with (1B, 2, 4, and the brown auburn mix).  If install all of it without adding streaks of bright colors or anything like that I figure I'll probably have to order a couple new wefts for the second install and the thrid in the main colors but be good for while on the accents.

But then again I haven't actually played witha full weft before.  I think 3 would more than cover you.  Two would likely cover you, and one would be good for adding a small amount of length and some volume.

In PH  aside from all the color things I've already discussed (i'm really into blending) you need three packs I'd say.  well if you're not going for crazy length in which case 4 or 5.  You probably won't use all of those three.  But somewhat close.  Depends on how high you go on your head etc etc

You can get the PH wefted but there is a delay.  you don't have the same flexibility on ow long to cut your tips but you get a lot more manageability out of it.

Of course if you are going for natural colors you can do what I've heard several suggest here and I'm working on switching too right now.  PH in the back where you are less likely to want to futz with it daily and wawa in the front.  this will mean ordering more hair for the first install simply to get all the various colors in the various types but could be a really good way to go.

I elaborate a bit much sometimes

so if you are going for a monocolor thing with some length but not HUGE volume 2 wefts of wawa or two bags of PH

With two colors 2 wefts color one and 1 weft color two in wawa or 2 color one 1 color two in PH (weft or bundle they are nearly the same weight so if you are going for longer than 16" it makes little difference).

three colors 2 wefts/packs base 1 each accents planning on having some left over for next time. (though if you really push on with the volume you could manage to use up nearly all of it in one install)

Have I confused you yet?  Hope not.  ask and I shall clarify myself.

Ditto everything Mocha said. I know it's confusing, but that's because there are so many variables with this stuff.

Generally, I think 3 to 4 packs of either brand will be ample. The WaWa's longest length is about 20, and it does come on wefts, which are more manageable; PH wefts have to be ordered (so you'll wait longer), but the hair is superlong (46 inches, I think), so you'll probably be able to cut the hair in half and double it, which is a plus, too. Both are very reasonably priced. If you're in a real hurry, you'll either want to get the WaWa or order the PH Priority or, better yet, Urgent, since the latter comes from overseas.

Good luck! :)
