this is like Dorothy tapping her heels together three times!

* i've learned that my hair is waaaaaaaaaay too thick - 45 min of blow dry time in the AM is just STUPID!

* i've learned that my convertible rides are no longer fun as i'm beaten about the face and neck with strays (last year i had a bob, it was windy, but it didn't hurt!)

* i've learned that purses, backpacks, and computer cases are NOT your friend when you hike them up onto your shoulder.

* i've learned that my own hair is rather unruly and growing out bangs is really a PITA!

* i've learned that no matter what my female office mates say, or the guys i flirt with at work, or my daughter....I really did kinda like shorter hair...at least i liked having time to myself in the morning...and the lower electric bill...and not having a sauna in the bathroom after i'm done blowdrying.

btw, today was day 4 and my first shrinkie fell out when i was blowdrying...of course, i'm abusive too.

i've also noticed some shedding, but it was a specific spot and i'm pretty sure when i pretipped, i missed those particular ones w/ the nail glue.

i can sympathize mtolady. thats why i cut my extensions, first to the shoulders, then to the chin. hey its still alot longer than my own hair, which is just a few inches at this point! thats what counts to me.

i was thinking about doing that....and i since i was also thinking of blunt cutting my own...that would work....but it still is a PITA to try and dry in there!

i did make the mistake of getting silky straight Remi....when i dry my own hair...there's a smidgen of wave to it....moreso than being stick straight, however, there's not enough wave that i can just leave it without touching the curling iron to it.  so i'm screwed either way  :)

Welcome to the world of long hair!

I think I can speak here as an authority on the longhair way of life.

If you love your long hair, you never blowdry. Usually this means washing it in the evening, then letting it airdry.

Updos are the solution to convertible rides and packstraps. Unfortunately, layers are the nemesis of updos. I suggest a scarf over your updo to protect those pesky layers.

yup

wash at night and you will have a fighting chance of having enough wave in the extension hair without appliances and no need to blow dry in th emorning.  (let it airdry a while then boink it.)

I have amassed every type size and variety of ponytail older on the gear shift in my car.  In my dad's convertible i used to keep a cloth headband as well (the ones that go all the way around)

Won't be long before you automatically swing or flip your hair intot he right place so as not to pull the hell out of it when carrying things on your shoulders.

bangs - 'nuff said

If you like the look but not the work give it a few weeks to see if you can adjust.  Then trim slowly.  YOu spent good money on that hair.  And you didn't do it because you hate the look of long hair.  If you can't adjust there's always clip ins for special occaisions (you know like ooh its tuesday what a special occasion)

if you are in a damp area, it takes longer to dry the hair, have you tried doing it in your bedroom?

Myself, I am extending my hair to the floor and hiring 2 chisled, tan, brazillian men to carry it behind me!

Long hair is a bitch--no doubt about it. I love it, though.

I have had a much easier time with drying since I switched to synth though. I'd say it dries in about half the time as human. :)

I have to agree with Katherine...my hair is nowhere near as long as hers, but I almost never blowdry mine.  Since I've started working full-time, I've taken to washing it at night and fixing it up a little in the morning.  I have no desire to wake up at 5:30 or 6 so my hair will be dry when I get to work at 9!  =)

Yes long hair is a bitch, mine with extensions, is down to my bra strap.  I didn't expect for it to slap me in the face and get caught in my purse strap soooo dam much to the point that I had blind spots, from my hair, at first which would nerly cause catstophies when I was walking or driving.  It was pretty frustrating and funny

I've had my extensions now for 3 months, and I am finally just now getting used to styling it.  I air dry it and rarely have to use any kind of curling irons.  Once in a while I use a blow dryer to tame it for 5 or 10 min.  I wash it every 3 or 4 days.  Having extensions actually shortens my routine cuz I used to wash my hair everyday, but now with extensions it just isn't practical.  I keep it kleen by brushing morning, afternoon and night.  Also, my hair is dry so I shouldn't have been washing my hair everyday to begin with anyway.

Honestly though it took me about 3 months to finally get used to having long hair and the obstacles that comes with it, but now I absolutely love love love it and will never go back to short hair!!

well, i have to say that i caved!

the shrinkies are gone....as is the headache from sleeping with my hair up!

take down was shorter than put up, obviously.....in addition, i had no damage using safflower massage oil and the doc's wand.  i went later that day to get my hair trimmed up as i had really been putting that off - so now i am to an-almost-complete chin length bob...i.e my final top layers are just a smidge short.

i can still ponytail it for karate...but i have 6 pincurl clips riding my pony holder b/c i know i'll need them.

maybe i need to switch over to making falls to wear over my ponies - i won't be doing that w/ the hair i pulled out, but i may do a wawa or other synth order in a few months.

on the good side, my hair took me 15 minutes from wet down to curling iron today.  yes my bathroom is hot/damp, no i can't blow dry in my bedroom w/ my hubby sleeping for another hour after i get up.

i had hoped that i wouldn't have to touch the hair in the AM...but with the silky straight it was like pins vs the little bit of wave i had in my natural hair....and you could definitely see the difference.  I was so frustrated i couldn't even ponytail it b/c it was too thick - recall i am working w/ natural red hair so i basically doubled the amt i already had .  my pony was the diameter of a small apple!

i'll still play on the board - b/c i'm not done w/ the extension thing.  In fact, i'd love to start doing them for people on a weekend.  Seems no one here does them, except for the 'registered' Great Locks folks.

it was definitely a learning experience...a good one! and i love that the shrinkies did no damage to my hair...in fact, using the oil + heat to take them out, all my little hairs were clapping and yelling "oooooh spa treatment!!"

oh falls so many options.

I have tons of them that I have made myself so please tell me what you do.  I'd love to see yet another way to get them to work.

I hear ya on the ponytail thing.  Mine is about five times the size it was without extensions.  I can maybe get a super big rubber band around it twice but that usually stretches them out so they have sections that don't spring back anymore.
