| Hi Eileen, I really like the color you chose, it is beautiful! I would consider getting another color foiled in as well, it would look stunning! As a former extension "addict" I think there are definite positive and negatives to them. If you just wanted a few streaks through the very top section of your hair, then I would say extensions might be your best bet. About a year ago, I had very very blonde hair and went through a phase where I wore it straight. I had three large periwinkle streak extensions put on each side and it looked very cool! However, the only type I have tried are wefts and pinchbraids, not shrinkies or glue/bonds. I do know people that have had these methods and they claimed that they were damaging, so definitely get on the extension board and ask around. I would never recommend wefts to anyone, but pinchbraids are awesome and relatively undamaging, as far as extensions go. However, if you want hilights all over, I would NOT recommend extensions as the means to do it. I know everyone on this board talks about the staying power of red color, but ANY stylist will tell you red is generally the FIRST color to fade, due to the fact the molecules in red pigment are larger or some scientific bull-s**t like that. My natural color is a light brown and years ago I colored my virgin hair red, with both semi and permanent. It always fades very fast. (My mother also color her hair auburn red, and she says the same thing) I think the warnings about red's resistence to fading may come from those individuals who have bleached or previously lightened hair who try to color it red and then cannot get rid of it when they don't like it. Of course red (or any dark color) will not fade as fast on a hair shaft that is already compromised. JMO, others may disagree on this; I speak only from my experiences and the experiences of family members and friends. Let us know what you end up doing   |
