Hi, I'm attempting to find an unusual type of hair spray that I used years ago but don't remember the name of (impossible, eh?). Any help would be appreciated. (I'm not really expecting to find the exact same brand, but finding a similar brand would be great) It is quite different from the usual hair spray I'm familiar with: It was "slippery" when dry without being "oily" -- in fact, I'd be hard pressed to say it felt like there was any oil/wax at all -- it actually felt very dry & non-sticky (silky?). It felt very different from regular hair spray in that it had *no* tacky feel... It also gave a LOT of shine. ...I have straight average hair that is easy to comb -- this hair spray made it even easier to comb or run your fingers through... I've tried shine sprays but they feel a bit oily/waxy like pomades do. ...I've tried very light hold "regular" hair sprays but they invariably feel just a bit tacky or sticky (and certainly don't feel "slippery"). Does anyone have any ideas on this one? fyi, the original spray (my roommate had) was in a non-descript black pump bottle Thanks in advance! -E |

Did it help hold styles in place, or was it no good for that? It
sounds like a spray on, leave-in conditioner, which would not help hold
styles at all because it would never harden, but would make it easier

It had about the same hold as a typical light control hair spray -- in other words, not too much hold, but enough that you could do some basic styling... Your "leave-in conditioner" idea is interesting -- I'm sure it wasn't labeled as a conditioner, but I wonder if some company tried to combine that idea with hair spray and came up with my mystery product... |

It sounds like a finishing spray to me. Those give hair an extra boost of shine, light hold, and make hair feel very silky. I think Mastercuts sells a kind of it (but I've never really tried it). Did you purchase the spray in a salon or a drugstore?

Finishing spray -- great idea -- I'll have to stop at over at ulta and see what they have. We were in college at the time (and consequently poor) so I'm sure my roomie was shopping at the local drugstore... Thanks! |

| Was it Mink Difference hairspray? I remember using it years and years ago and it did have a nice soft silky feel to it. I think the bottle was dark brown tho, not black, so I may be wrong. |

Well, after a bit of research and testing products, I can confirm that it is NOT John Frieda (brilliant brunette?) Shine Shock or John Frieda's Frizz Ease -- both were finishers that advertised "high shine" and "no tackiness". FYI, Shine Shock was a bit of a let down for what it advertised itself as -- it didn't really add any noticeable shine (American Crew Pomade blows it away in that regard) though it did "calm down" fly away hair without adding too much "weight" if you're looking for a natural unstyled look... It doesn't "dry" the way a hair spray/gel does, instead it stays slightly moist (oil or wax really) like a pomade (but much lighter). FYI 2, Frizz Ease (billed as a light finisher) was little more than light hold hair spray. It didn't offer anything special. I'll post back if I (someday) find this "mystery product" -E ps I'll give Mink Diff a try next time I see it. -- thanks! |
