Okay, so we've all seen amm's "sausage link sized pinchbraids."  What I really want from that whole thread though is one of those handy dandy mannequin heads to practice on.

A) Any suggestions on where to get one?
B) Do any of them come with decent hair so I could try practicing shrinkie or heat seals on them with out total destrution?
C) Do most of y'all DIYer's think they are worth it?

thanks,
:)al

I try out all my new techniques on my manniquin head.  In fact it still has my very first fusion practice in it with bright yellow monofibre LOL xx

Okay so fusion requires quite a bit of heat.  What kind of hair does your head have?

Or does it stillhave the yellow because taking it off could mean the death of those strands?

I have bought them at Sally's before too.  You will also need to get the clamp to clamp it to the table so it will be stable while you work on it.

Yes, you must have one if you intend to really get down on those pinchbraids. They're great for all kinds of experiments. They come with human hair...and the hair can take all the shrinkie/extentube/fusion/pinchbraid punishment you can meter out.

Be sure to get the table clamp as Metalgirl suggested.

Definitely worth it. I've been using a wig on a styro head for practice, but a wig ('specially a crappy weft-based one like I've been using) really doesn't imitate the natural placement of hair well.

And yeah, I saw a bunch at Sally's last time I was there, for about $30.

I really just want to figure out what's going on with the shrinkie application where I can see not just feel and guess at what's going on.

That and figure out what the heck the difference between doing a pinch braid and doing a heat seal is.

Okay i know the difference.  But I can pinch braid fine.  But heat sealing scares the crap out of me.  Maybe with a head I'll be able to make the seals stay.  then I can move on to burning myself.  Or do it the same way I do shrinkies - My husband uses the heat.

Funny thing is right now I just want to figure out that new weft ring technique.  The shrinkies and the heat seals (and maybe a future in fusion) are to justify it...

I bought mine at sallys for, I think it was $25ish, and the hair is decent to practice on, although I wouldnt color or perm it.  its great to practice extensions on.  but I need a new one cause I accidently dumped a whole tube of glue on her head

oooh poor little head.

I know my Sally's doesn't have them but there is another beauty supply store i go to, that I like better, that I think has them...

And as it turns out my experiemtn(at work) is going ot be running a few days longer than planned.  So I have to delay my new hair a few days (I promised myself a reinstall or new stuff when I finish)

So maybe I'll get one and bring it to the lab to practice with...
