I need some help, I'm going for the shrinkie method instead of microlinks and I need some helpful advice on which is better to buy (shrinkies) from Dr.Locks or Shrinkies.net ?

Thanks.

Well, shrinkies.net has been getting better reviews for quality and also comes in at a much better price, so I'd say go with shrinkies.net.

Good luck! :)

Get shrinkies.net's shrinkies. They shrink down better.

Ditto, Ditto, and Ditto!!!!

I just did the comparison... Shrinkies.net hands down shrink smaller and more evenly! Doc's do seem to have a taper from how they are cut...which made a hard poit at the tip once shrunk...and it really hurts! The .net remover is nice, too!

I will say this...get Docs wand!

shrinkies.net's shrinkies are soooo much better! They shrink down smaller are more uniform and consistant. I just took down about 1/4 of my fusion bonds tonight and installed the shrinkies....I love em!! I cant wait to get my head finished tomorrow!

Since I got my wand back from Rose the other day, I put in 6 shrinkies.net shrinkies and those babies are rock hard - they're not going anywhere! Actually I did lose 2 - one was just not put in right and the other was held on by 4 hairs so the whole thing came out. But the ones that were put in properly are totally secure, practically invisible, and really comfortable! I used the black. I've washed AND CONDITIONED my hair every day since putting them in (my hair is short so conditioner gets on the roots and shrinkies) and they are still as hard as the day I put them in.

These black shrinkies are the greatest find ever. If it weren't for them, I'd be off shrinkies entirely as the other were just too inconsistent for the effort. These are awesome.

Yow! Thanks! I'm doing my first whole head with them my own self and only have lost one in the very back and that was right after the install so I know I didn't put it in right. So, three weeks and still going strong and zero maintenence thus far. Woot! I'm not brave enough to work conditioner around them so I just kinda pat it lightly on the hair and not work it in.

The black are definitely different than the clear. The ole fart I deal with tole me the material was exactly the same but just different colors. Ummm, NO they are not. The clear are good, too, but these black are the freakin bomb.

I'm curious why using shrinkies is so good.
It looks to me like fusion extensions with more stuff to remove in the end.
Isn't it a pain to get out? I know fusion extensions can be sometimes.
Someone enlighten me. Looks like a pain in the butt if you ask me.

I am just recently using shrinkies and I have to tell you there alot more foolproof than they seem(me being a fool alot).I didnt keep them in long.A week tops. But I also tipped with Liquid gold .And I didnt use anything to cover the Liquid Gold.I messed up on sectioning, but the shrinkies themselves did really well. They held the extension hair tight.I had no shedding over the week. Not even one hair. And the takedown was easy too.Just heat it up and slide it off, exactly like it says.I put oil and conditioner on my hair overnight for the extra glue left behind(mostly LG).And by the next morning my hair was able to be combed through.I didnt lose any hair,no breakage and I have thin fine hair. I love shrinkies. And I'm planning on using them on my next install

And to add to that I love that I even someone like me can do these(with help from my husband). And if you pretip with the right stuff you can reuse the hair unlike fusion.I'm tipping with salon pro latex right now which is a dream.

Boogiemama:

I can only speak for the MB shrink Links, I like them because they go in the hair very easily, stay in well, and come out easily when removed.  The shrink link system uses the perma plugs with the plastic tip that doesn't melt, so it doesn't create any additional residue in the hair to remove, unlike the homemade tips.

The shrink link residue left behind is minimal and easily cleaned up with the orange solvent and a cotton square.

Well, Boogiemama, I just got back from the Prostyles class in San Francisco, and it's not the easiest method to master!  My hats off to you for being such the Prostyles wizard that you are!

Do you use their Pro drops on the braid or are you using spirit gum?

Do you prefer the Prohair fiber or do you like the Plastik Haar?

I loved the class and think I will love the method.  I thought the Prohair felt very silky, maybe even more silky than PH.

And by the way, I still am want very badly to fly up and have you do my hair!  I had some unexpected and expensive vet bills in the last few weeks, so that kind of depleted my hair - travel fund.

boogiemama... The shrinkies glue left behind is minimal compared to fusion. No comparison whatsoever. I just took my fusion bonds down yesterday and did a full shrinkie install. IMO... for a DIYer its about the best option out there.

Ah. I was under the assumption that the tipped hair melted down and ended up being just like a fusion extension with a plastic coating.

I used an orange solvent once on my own hair and it totally thrashed it. I guess putting it over damaged and bleached hair can do that.

YOu really think it's hard? I think it's way way easy to do, and much faster than other ways. But then I've been doing it for so long I could be asleep and do a head. :)

I use spirit gum. It's the same thing and much cheaper. I do like the applicator better than a bottle and brush tho.
I think Prohair fiber might be slightly better, but you can't beat the price of PH. I'm installing my own first set of PH right now so we'll see how it lasts.
It does seem to tangle and snag easier, but that is because it's so long. I end up cutting the hair about 2" above the end fastener when I take it out of the package which makes it much easier to deal with. And you can't beat the color selection at all.

I might try the shrinkies, but the whole fusion adhesive on the ends bothers me. Where is a link where I can try a different alternative to that?

Well, there are shrinkies without adhesive, but they don't seem to stay in the hair, unfortunately. The glue lining is critical. :)
