Hey Heather:
Welcome!!  I love it when the heavy-hitters join us!

Hey, question about using Human Hair with pinchbraids or heat seals. A lot of us have been curious about this. . .when you use the synthetic hair that's so long, you can obviously double it over. How do you handle using the human hair and the shorter ends of the braids? Hope this question makes sense!

Carolyn

Just wanted to start a new thread for this... How do you address this using quality cuticle/remy hair without the hair tangling?

I ran into this problem today.Just when I thought I could pinch braid I went to use HH, so I tried shortening an end, to conceal/ minimize the reverse direction of the cuticle so that most of the cuticle would lie correctly...Well it sounds goog in theory, but it was tough! My braid kept sliding! So, I opted for Shrinkies. Looked good but I was disappointed! Back to practicing I guess...

I think I told you guys before that I am a newbie that trained at Hairpolice.

So that said, Pinchbraiding with HH is much more challenging.  You need to use all the tricks... spray the section with hairspray, and I like to mix the human hair into two braid sections like Rae does in her tutorial.

Really the only thing to know is that you start with a longer tail end, and as you improve you can get it so its barely there.

I'm kind of thinking that working with human hair is bogue these days.  Synthetic is way more fun for me, at least this month.

     hope that helps

I don't seem to have any problems with it- but then, I've been practicing a while.

First, you really don't want to fold the hair over -all-the way, because that gives it so much room to tangle. Plus then you're losing half the hair length! I just fold over the top 2-3 inches (it may be easier to start with more, like 5-6), so I have one 20" (or whatever) end and one 3" one. The 2-3" tail will end just below the end of the braid and not be visible. You can either leave it, or thin it out with a razor or some thinning shears.

That's really it; beyond that, it's just practice. :)

Hey all: Heather posted this response in that link:

Quote Hi guys, wow, I had no idea...thanks :)

Carolyn: you just fold over about an inch and braid from there. You can fold more over as you are layering up the head. Actually, I prefer to cut [synthetic] hair in half rather than doubling it over. I think it layers better and looks more natural, but it's just personal preference and it really depends on the desired length / fullness.

Hope that helps / makes sense :)
