Hello, I wish I had found this board a lot sooner.

About 18 months Ago I was diagnosed with cancer. So I went though my treatments and surgery and finally it was over. However My Hair nightmare only just begun. My Hair was around 32" in length and very healthy and curly.  At the end my hair was horrible and short around 11" with most of the top bit around 9'. I felt so horrible looking in the mirror and a great friend recommend a place for Hair Extensions, Great Lengths.

I was under sided for ages if this was the best way to go. but eventually around September last year I had them put in. The total cost in Australia was $4,600 dollar. For the first month they where perfect no problems and fantastic looking hair. 

I kept going back every 6 weeks for the 'treatments' to keep the hair healthy and strong. I kept asking how long will this last and was always told can be kept up to 9 months with only just removing them and reinserting them. I thought ok that's fine wanting to get the most out of the money I paid.

After about the Third treatment it was just knotting all the time (Hair had been in or a total of 3 months) so they decided the best way was to do a perm to it. I really just wanted the hair to sit and look alright so I said yes. I was then told to come in for treatments every 2 weeks to maintain the hair $150 a treatment mind you. I said no I can't afford that.

Anyway I'm how up to 7 months!! and the hair is starting to look really shaggy. There are whole sections that have just the bond and no hair. I'm at my wits end. The Hairdresser said they will just put more in to cover the gaps which are another $800.

Having my Husband looking though my hair it is now shorter that it was 18 months ago. I'm just so devastated this has happened. Can anyone recommend me anything to do?

In total over 8 months the total cost has come out at around $8,000 Australian. Ekk

Oh my gosh you poor thing!!!! The price you are paying is extremely high even with the AU dollar. There is a lot of information on this site that can help you learn to do your own or even enlist the help of a friend to do it for you. You can eventually do your own hair for $100-$200 and save yourself a ton of ca$h. Check the extensions 101 thread:

 there's lots of tutorials up there to teach you and lists of places to buy your products.

How is the quality of your natural hair? Strong again? If it's still weak you may want to try some clip-in pieces.... there's a ton of options out there for you.

My own hair is quite strong. I'll looking into that list and see what I can do. I'm going to my hairdresser in two days time. There doing a consult to see what they can do. What every they choose to do I'll post back here before accepting it.

I would get these things out of your hair as soon as you can.  I really hate extension people who take advantage and lie to the client (it can stay in 9 months...) and charge way too much!

You may want to try to clip in thing.  It can look good and it's very affordable!

There are loads of information, links and demos in these threads. And alot of very knowledgeable and experienced professionals and DIYers here on this board. There are many options available, many of which can be accomplished by a DIYer or with the help of another person. Alot of the ladies here are fortunate enough to get their boyfriends, husbands and even kids to help them! And it can be done successfully! If you are not into the DIY, thats ok too, as Im sure we can help you search out and find a great stylist too.

The money that you have spent is way too much, and the method of fusion is one of the harshest to the hair. One more bad review for Great Lengths!

alcohol removes great lengths real good. Put some in a sprayer and satureate the bond the crush it with plyers it should all come out easy

I am sorry to hear your story.

There are less expensive ways. Start reading. You first need to learn all the different processes you can choose and figure what is the best route for you. (or even test a couple)

It is FANTASTIC to hear your hair is STRONG!

Some of us are using synth hair from PH (link in my sig) which cuts costs a LOT. You may be able to find a less expensive stylist online, or.. alternatively, you may find that you can do this on your own. I believe that we all CAN do it on our own or with the help of loved ones if we have enough time and or patience. I don't fall into the patience category, unfortunately.

Natalie, first my condolenses.  You have been a victim of a bad salon.  Shame on them.

Ok you paid roughly $3500 USD for your GL, I don't know what length you had or how many strands of hair but as a GL technician myself, we are suppose to charge $7-$14 minimum per strand and if not then GL will never let us order from them again.  I must admit, I've gotten many clients and some will hop on a plane just for these.  So I intend to keep this option to my hair extension collection.  Metalgirl, your Shrink Links are next on my lists!!!

But going back to your sorry, first and foremost, GL hair is not at all reusable.  "was always told can be kept up to 9 months with only just removing them and reinserting them."  9 months of removing and reinserting- no such thing!  I tell my clients 8 weeks they got their monies worth, 3 months maximum.  Some clients who are models want to replace it after the 8-12 weeks.  But the clients who are housewives just want to get a fill in.  I had this one client who kept on getting a fill in because she never wanted me to remove them and it was still in there but like 5 inches long for yeah 9 months 

Anyway, the truth is GL hair is NOT REINSERTABLE  {never heard of it and been with this company for over 4 years, so forgive me if I'm wrong}.

Only if the salon was open and honest with you, you would not have had to voice your opinion.  I would contact GL directly to find out for myself if GL hair is for a fact REINSERTABLE.  And if not, then you may want to bring the attention of that salon to GL directly.

In the future, I would research extensively prior to spending my cash- regardless if $250 or as high as $4600 Aussie dollars.
