hmm...
can you afford purple shampoo? you can get it at salons for about $10 :) that'll take brassiness out of it, i think the only way you'll get rid or orange is to either bleach it up, or get a stylist to do it

If you can pick out the highlights carefully!!! re bleach the ornge parts. You can use foil to keep them seperate and they will come up fast so watch it. Then shampoo with shimer lights ( sallys) or ues a blond toner. If it is realy ornge the shimer lights (Blue shampoo) wont work untill it is lighter.

I think if you went over even half of the orange bits with bleach and a mascara wand, you could get a good effect.... just don't go crazy with the bleach. I've been there myself. good luck

"beige blonde" toner, as weel as some 20 weight developer and some
scalp protectant. it's processing right now, and i'm keeping my fingers
crossed

oh thats horrible.I've been there myself.I have always wanted blonde hair. And my hairs a natural #4 almost #3.I tried lots of different home dyes. All I would get was orange roots .I would just dye over the whole thing. One time I screwed my hair up so bad I decided to start over and shaved it allll off.But I wore wigs.
I hope this works for you.Your lucky your a natural dark blonde. It will probably turn out looking really nice.

Oh i'm sorry.Does it really look that bad? I dont understand why it didnt work.I've know alot of people with light brown hair who's hair bleached with one box.Does your hair have red tones.Strawberry blondes,or golden shades. That could explain the orange.I think a combination of the foils and purple shampoo might be an option.I know you dont want to go to a salon, but honestly you could end up spending more trying to fix it,than you would just having done at the salon. And with much better results.Maybe you have a stylist foil the orange peices. That shouldnt cost too much.

ok, first off, did you go to the hair color section of this board?
second, your hair was colored first?
third, you bleached your hair?
then you put toner on it?
try generic shimmer lights from sally's it is $5 (purple shampoo) in a black and white bottle, also get the $5 savings card at sallys that gives you 10% off all your purchases if you are gonna keep buying stuff there!!!

yes i did go to the hair color section, but it isn't as active.
my hair had been bleached in the past with good old frost and glow. the
parts that turned orange was where my natural hair color had been.
yes i bleached it.
then toner the next day.
i left the toner on 5 min longer than they said because it sitll looked orange.
but now it is dry and looks better. not great, but i think it will
blend really well with the 27/613 wawa i just ordered from vixenwigs

fyi, the purple shampoo saved my life like a month ago, it's $5, you should always have it your shower if any of your hair is bleached bc your hair will absorb deposits from the water eytc that regular shampoo will not remove.

If your hair isn't lightened to the appropriate level, no toner or blue
shampoo will get rid of the orange. You need to lighten it more.
How long were your roots?

I agree with Boogiemama, if you hair wasn't sufficiently lifted through the orange stage, no amount of toner or blue shampoo will help you. You will need to lift past the orange stage, and then tone.

a couple of inches.Sorry it took so long to post back, lol.I dint know you were talking to me.I go to a stylist now .She is awsome with color. She lifted my #3 dark brown to wonderful shades of dark blondes and lights with some caramels.Plus my hair is much healthier than when I home dyed.

now that you have put a toner on, if you put another toner on it, it could possible go grey if one of them contains ash, so don't put another toner on.. if you usually bleach your hair.. leave it for a week, and then bleach it again..
if you do bleech after bleach it doesn't take as well, and also damages your hair a lot more..
i've done this to my hair before, and ended up spending more on bleach than i would have done to get it done at a salon in the end, and it was still patchy so i ended up at the salon anyway..

I have used a generic version and clairol shimmerlights that are both purple. Im not sure if people just have different color perceptions or if there are some that are blue and some that are purple? Ya got me...?

my hair is light blonde, it is not orange. i know that purple counteracts orange and blue counteracts yellow. i just like my blonde to be a cool shade, so I use blue base toner on it, but I would like a shampoo to help tone it as well. Someone told me about blu shampoo at the salon, but I don't know what brand it was.

kris--my roots are orange, the rest is light blonde. my natural hair
color is dark blonde. i know i didn't leave the bleach on long enough
because it was burning the hell out of my scalp. what do you think i
should do?

I think it's the other way around: Purple neutralizes yellow, and blue neutralizes orange, no?

You're right, Jenny. Color wheel theory.
AmethystKat...I'm not sure what volume developer you used, but if it
was a higher number, that would be more likely to burn your
scalp. Another round of 20 vol bleach will take you to yellow,
and if you're really careful to keep it off your scalp, it shouldn't
burn. Also, don't wash your hair too soon before bleaching--the
oil helps protect your scalp from the bleach. Twenty-four hours
between shampoo and bleach can really make a difference. Good
luck!

When you bleach your hair only put the bleach on the roots.. If you can get ahold of some paul mitchell bleach use that.. If you send me a paypals I can send you some.. The reason I say paul mitchell is because it is a onscalp bleach.. Make sure what ever bleach you use it says on scalp. try not to ich or wash your hair before you bleach it. You should apply it 1/4" away from the scalp.. dont worry it will swell all the way up.. do not bleach all your hair only the roots.. and to make it a cool blond I would use a PM Shine 9bv blue purple base.. i can send you that to.. that will cut all the orange that you have left dont use anything overe a 20dev on the scalp.. take tiny little sections thats the key..

ya jenny you are absolutely right. my error. I just notice that pruple makes my blonde a dull color. The blue makes it cooler.
