Str8ening irons are EVIL.  I used them on and off for 2 years...I used every thermal protector there is and intensive conditioned my hair twice a week and regular trims and my hair is still very damaged...I have swollen cuticle spots everywhere...str8ening irons may make your hair look nice and flat and frizz free but underneath your hair is crying out for some TLC......Take the no heat on hair challange for a month and u will see a remarkable difference-who needs hair that looks like a sheet of glass stuck down to your head....big is better-let ur hair loose.

Sorry can't agree with you there. I've been using mine for a year and my hair has never been better. Yes constant heat will cause some damage but if you use the right regimen, the right products, and most important the right iron, you shouldn't have a problem. I use a Sedu iron. It is expensive but worth the money. I don't have any swollen spots, and my hair isn't dry at all. But I invest in the best products and do regular protein treatments. I do take heat breaks, even thought I only flat iron twice a week. I will go at least a week without using heat, just to give my hair a rest. But It doesn't feel any better and nowhere near as soft as when I do my regular regimen. So I guess it depends on your type of hair, and definitly the quality of products you use.

try conditioning your hair more so it is not as dry but the iron has to be the best of quality if you don't want to damage your hair.

I use my Sedu daily for touch ups.  No problems with damage that I can tell.  I don't think I could manage without it.

Yeap, I'm still using mine and my hair is still beautiful and healthy. I'm sure if I was using a cheap iron that wouldn't be the case. When it comes to flat irons you deft. want to do your homework and get the best you can.
