so heres my install, for the most part i like it...my only problem is where my hair meets the wawa, the wawa is darker than i expected and my hair is sooo much more softer...i wanted everyones opinion on if i bought some longer human hair my color and installed it inbetween if that would work, like what amm did...ok here goes...sorry about the crappy quality on some of these some were taken at night

me before side *my hair is very thin but i not see through its odd*

me before back

pretips

during *did smaller rows*

after front

after back *heres where the real problem is

sorry about the funky curling job, my first time with curlers!

What are you talking about?! That looks awesome! All you need is some styling which, as I have always said, is the hardest part. But the colors and length and placement look great, Luckie! You just need to get someone who knows what she's doing to trim and shape you up a bit and it will be amazing.

Good job! Is this your first time DIY? With shrinkies?

it looks fine from what I can see, if theres a problem you need to take steady pictures without any effects for us to see it

thanks for your replies guys, this is my first full install, i kinda did a few rows with ph hair and then stopped cause i wasnt liking it *ph is a bit rougher feeling in the shower..at least to me* but the hair itself i loved. haha yah i know about the trimming thing im going to have my friend help me with that even though she doesnt know what the hell shes doing either but hey that is what fun about diy right?

kalika its hard to see in the pictures sorry, its not a huge problem really its just that the wawa doesnt match my natural hair, my hair is much much softer and babyfine and my hair is one solid color where the wawa is highlighted so you can kinda tell where my hair ends but like i said i think just putting a little bit of human hair inbetween to match the texture would help that problem, the only question is what color is my hair?  i dyed it champagne blonde but now its a little bit lighter than that and i wanted to do the pretipped pack from extensions plus, a 24 maybe?

ooh and amms shrinkies rule! yay for amm!

Please tell me this is WaWa straight and not the bodywave. If it's the bodywave, please don't install anymore and wear it a few days before proceeding.

Is that 27/613?

Your rows look very very good and the sectioning is so consistent. Congratulations for that!

Most issues can be resolved by adding more hair but I'd say stop where you are because there seems to be a blending problem with the colors.

Do you have any lowlights in your natural hair? It looks a solid color and a gorgeous blonde. The WaWa 27 (if that's the color I'm seeing) will make a definite line unless there's something on top for it to meld into.

A better alternative would be solid underlayer in color, say all #27 (or darker) and then abruptly change color on the next level. Does that make sense?

PS: regarding friends with scissors...

Trim ends of the synth only. If the layering occurs while the hair is installed, you'll be shaving off your own hair with it. This was part of the problem I had when Hairlocs installed in my hair. They scraped that razor and scissors down the strands and thinned my own hair length in the process. That sucked.

thank you so much amm, and dont worry i read your reviews on the bodywave and this is straight wawa which i curled.  so you dont think doing the human hair thing would work out? i do like your idea with the darker color underneath the only problem is it took me forever to install this mop of hair and now i dont want to have to uninstall half of it so thats why i was just hoping to replace the top few rows with human.  curling helps it look better, heres the hair again with a tighter curl, and sorry but im still in my pajamas even at this time of day *day off work*

p.s. at one point of time in my life i might have had lowlights *think its just one solid color now*

Now that photo looks a lot better! Looks completely natural and nice and full to me. Great job with the curling, too!

Looks superb, love how it goes from lighter to darker in the back. Also, what syren said about styling.

thank you so much guys! i was only able to do this myself because i found this website and got so much help from you all! i find the blending is a LOT easier with just the curlier up top so ill keep that for this install, and plus duh i looked in my closet and found some of that ph i originally ordered so ill just use a little bit of that to help the blending too!  lots of love to you wonderful ladies

Wow... that looks awesome... and natural.  Did you use amm's shrinkies to bond all of the hair??  How many times did you burn yourself? lol.  I just bought some shrinkies from her and can't wait to try them.... just afraid of the burning part. It's so hard for my to do the back of my head.  Congrats on your great sectioning!

I absolutely love your hair but how do you manage to install it yourself.  I want to do my own but dont think I could manage it.  Can anyone give me some ideas.

Gingerhead,  teach a friend to do it and trade installs.  I don't mean to be flip, but I believe it takes a very special (and agile) person to do the back of their own hair with shrinkies (or any method besides clip-ins).

The last time I tried my eyeballs hurt from looking up in the mirror behind me, and I strained my neck.  That's kind of why everybody who manages it gets the double thumbs up.

Hope this comment is taken gently,  I mean it to be kind

I can do the front of my head with out a mirror.  But the back is an interesting balancing act best left to having help with shrinkies.  I have no problems with rings, but the burn potential is very high with shrinkies.  I can just see my crispy fried fingers now.  Though i was considering getting silicone fingercots and seeing how well I did on my own.

THough i think the webcam/video camera method could work.  Someone here set up there camera looking at the back of their head and watched their hands on their tv or monitor while installing and had great results.

hehe thanks scotchy i am a very special person, in the head! muhahah.  honestly guys doing the back of your head is finding your comfort level.  when i first attempted this a couple months ago i was finding it hard to do and went through the same thing your going through. ill explain how i do it so maybe it can help a few of you all out.

So i get 2 full length mirrors, set the first one up against my computer desk put a small chair in the middle and set the other one up opposite.  I sit in my chair and angle the mirrors until i can manage the closest vision of the back of my head in the mirror. *your mirrors should NOT be aligned, one mirror should actually be more to the side and then when you need to see the other side of your head just get up and turn around* make sure all the lights in my room are on *lighter helps* and make sure my glasses are on.  start my first section *i actually find the hardest part in all this to get a straight line going when parting my hair*.  When i grab my first section and pull my shrinkie through i put my pretip throught the shrinkie hold my hand close to the shrinkie to keep the pretip in and clamp down for about 2 seconds on the shrinkie, release and then lift the extension hair and natural hair up away from my scalp and then proceed to finish heating the shrinkie.  Will it take a little getting used to? YES sure will, but just keep trying and youll figure out small ways to position things to help.  now the only problem i have when installing is sitting still cause i get very impatient.  good luck!

p.s. yes ive burned myself a couple of times but i dont seem to mind, maybe my head is just so thick it doesnt really matter!

suggestion for more light: I bought a couple of cheap dome clamp light fixtures (They look like a silver dome with a clamp handle that you screw a lightbulb into) They work great, they clamp right on top of your full length mirror and put extra, bright light right where you need it!

WOW, really good job.  I have to give you credit because I do not even want to start a job like that.  How long did it take you?  Maybe because I have kids now and I am lucky to get 15 minutes to do my hair, so I can't imagine even starting a project like that.  I remember the  younger days when I spent 2 hours to get it just right - LOL.  Now I am happy if I can leave the house without some type of sticky food stuck in my hair.  The best is when I had a big ol lollipop stuck on the back of my head and I walked 2 hours through the mall that way.  Oh, well - sticky fingers, mouths or hands; I'll never pass on a great big toddler kiss or hug
