i have heard people on here talking about "backcombing" when they're getting their dreads done and stuff. i wanted to know what is "backcombing"?

btw i heard it was painful!

It's not painful unless you're trying to take it out.

Backcombing (for dreads) is when you take the lock of hair you want to make into a dreadlock, hold it out and run the comb upwards instead of downwards. You catch and push some of the hairs in each stroke, turning that nice silky lock into a long mat.
