I'm on the home stretch with this batch--brand new haar this weekend, 100% PH this time. I must say, this mix has held up tremendously well. This is the hair after a day spent running around. I haven't blown it out for about a week or used hot rollers for a while, either. The hair is looking piecier, though, which is because the pinchbraids are growing out, I think. The hair itself seems fine. :)

Come to think of it, it's looking *really* piecey in the back. Maybe I should start looking into wefts.... :)

How would you put them in, Jenny? Cornrows?

I wish mine could be so "piecey".  It looked great from beginning to end.

Jenny the haar still looks like its in wonderful shape! Id say it looks as good as any good HH after that length of time (and better than some)

Thanks, Delin & Sher.

Syren: I have no idea. But yeah, I would imagine cornrows. I love the pinchbraid method, but the pieceiness drives me batty. I wonder if a track or two, combined with pinchbraids for the rest of the hair, would fix the problem. Again, it wasn't too piecey for the first month or so; it gets worse as they grow out.

Anyone else have these issues with strand-by-strand methods?

:)

hey jenny - i think it still looks fab. sorta on the topic - heather from atlanta told me that there is a hairpolice weave method, not sure what it involves though. she made it sound less involved than a sew in on cornrows.

Jenny, I do not think it looks piecey at all but very pretty.

With WEFTS?! Ohgod...you must find out about that! Please, I mean.

Man, if that's "piecey" it sure doesn't translate over into pictures. The length of the haar looks like it's still as lush and full as ever.

sherrie, doesn't it, though? It's remarkable stuff and I'm excited for you to try it out.

Jenny, I have had less piece look with Plastikhaar than any other install. The haar is so fine that sometimes it can lay over the top of itself in strands and simply needs to be smoothed or lightly fingercombed. But chunked strand separations? Never. And the less product I have on this haar, the smoother and softer it seems.

hi jenny

hmm if you dont like it piecy
ask your hairstylist to use less synth hair for each princhbraid

guess thats the reason...

Yeah, the stylist can do smaller braids + more of them. That's basically how Bridget's work avoids the piecey look; her heat-seals are so much smaller than most connections of any sort that the pieces themselves are very thin. Doing more and smaller braids will make the process take longer, but if you want true un-piecey, that's the solution.

Personally? I think it looks great. Even natural hair is piecey- that's what mine used to do ten minutes after brushing- so it doesn't ruin the look of the extensions at all.

Jenny that hair really is fabulous.... But.... If you mix weft and pinchbraids you must post detailed photos.  I think two thin rows of weft mixed in with a head of small pinchbraids would be interesting.

However,  I believe you will miss the free feeling and easy access to your scalp from pinchbraids.  Wefts can feel like a mass stuck to your noggin.  I personally can't deal with it for more than a day.

From what I've dealt with wefts, I think I'm completely over it. Like Scoth said, they feel like a huge mass stuck to your head, and they itch like crazy!!! I'd only use it for like someone for prom or whatever, not longterm.........

Jenny-

I would discourage you from getting wefts for a number of reasons. Yes, PB's can look a little piecey if too much hair is used per braid or there are simply not enough braids. I think your hair looks fabulous and IMO you have virtually no pieceiness. Your hair already looks as full as it would with wefts, so why mess with a good thing? Wefts are soo much harder to work with, they itch, they can smell, they look a little funky if they are "peeking through," and I also think  wefts can look a little too "wiggy". No to mention they limit your styling options. I had wefts combined with PB's about five years ago, and even with the microwefts I could not wear two braids or pigtails, basically any style that involves a part down the center of your head. At least if a PB shows, it looks cute and funky, not so with wefts.

I do not care what anyone says, I feel wefts do damage your hair more than PB's. I thought I would be able to grow mine out by wearing extensions. Basically, I gained no length at all after wearing wefts for a year (I even had it tightened every 10 weeks to avoid matting) so I had Hair Police take them out and cut my hair to my shoulders because it was definitely thinner after wearing them for so long. On the other hand, I have worn a 3/4 head of PB's for a span of a year or longer, with no adverse effects. I was actually able to grow my hair while wearing them. Just my two cents, I think your hair looks beautiful as is.

Jenny how does your hair take to microrings?  I'm wearing microringed tracks right now and they are so flat.  I know you had hairlocs (eurolocs) issues but all squishy metallic rings are not created equal.  Anyhow, you could always do two layers of tracks but have them split down the middle if you wanted to be able to part your hair down the center (I think I may try this in the future).  so

________  ________
________  ________
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

so the umm lines are tracks and the x's are pinchbraids.

though I don't think there is anything at all wrong with your hair.  But I understand that you notice a lot of things others won't and you want to feel the best you can about your hair so you will keep trying different things til you  find perfection in your opinion not just ours.

Yeah, like everything with else, the wefts seem like a trade-off. In general, I do love the pinchbraids; my only complaint at this point is the pieceiness, and perhaps that's just unavoidable. I counted, and I have 100 PBs. I wonder if 150 slightly smaller braids would work better.... It is much better than last time, when I only had 80 of them. And it wasn't too piecey until fairly recently. I think they become more piecey as the hair grows from the root (as you can see, there's no pieciness when I'm holding the hair in a ponytail).

Again, this PlastikHaar is phenomenal. For my new install, we're using Perlweiss and Gwen Blonde (a custom mix of Perlweiss, Seiden, and Vanille). Yummy!

When's your next appt?

Also, here's another monkey wrench to throw in the mix:
I think Rae mentioned that the reason Boogiemama's installs look so awesome is the heat seals method she uses makes the connections VERY very small - maybe that would work for you? The problem is finding a stylist to do it and that would mean leaving Isaac, which is almost unthinkable. But...an idea.

Well, you wouldn't necessarily have to have them be heat-seals; my point is that they're so un-piecey because they're so small. Teeny-weeny pinchbraids would have the same effect.

I was thinking similarly but Rae seems to have covered it.  then you wouldn't have to give up Issac.

mmm so many options.  and only so many installs per year to try them...

That's why it takes a whole board to cover them all!

Regarding weaves:

Right now my two bottom rows are weaves and the rest are pinchbraids. The only reason I have weaves on the bottom is for the extra length on the human hair and because I have this habit of constantly picking my hair out of my pinchbraids. I agree with all the comments about weaves damaging your hair more and also being more difficult to style. I still wear my hair in pigtails and ponytails, but I'm not really concerned with concealing my extensions, but I do prefer pinchbraids showing instead of wefts. Even with the HairPolice technique, where extra hair is added to the cornrow and it's anchored in spots, it can still cause damage...especially on bleached hair. Personally, I prefer the piecey look on myself...I get frustrated when the weft parts wont separate like the rest of my hair.

Jenny: I think your hair looks great, and I agree that making the braids smaller would probably help. :)

Jenny, your hair does look great and Issac is awesome!

But, I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of pinchbraids.  They are too big.  Bridget used to do my hair years ago with loose human hair using the 4 box braid, spirit gum, and heat sealed it with synth.   Then I got my hair done by hairpolice and I'm not as crazy about string as much as I am with the heat seal.

Jenny, the upside is that pinchbraid is retightening and reusable; whereas heat seal is disposable hair.  So basically it is what's most important to you.

I vote heat seal over string {my hair, my opinion}.  Plus synth hair is soooooo cheap!

All my best, Charlene

Also...keep in mind that everyone seems to do their own different sizes on pinchbraids, box braids, etc. You can ask to have them made smaller and your stylist should be able to make them as small as you like...it'll just take a bit longer. I'm sure if you ask, your stylist would work with you to figure out what works best for you...pinchbraids don't have to be big.  :)

Jenny wears PH 50 mm in pinch braids.

Gosh!  Im so going to install PH in my own hair!  I can't believe how beautiful the hair looks at 9 weeks  as its much better than standard HH would look like around 9 weeks.

Only 1 thing.  Whats involved in a blow out?

That's when the pinchbraid slides out of the hair, or somehow comes unravelled.

Shel: Actually, when I said "blow out," I was just talking about blowing the ends of the synth hair smooth, which is really easy and you'll probably find helpful at some point while wearing synth. Doc's tutorial is excellent: http://www.drlocks.net/straightsilkybraid/index.htm - http://www.drlocks.net/straightsilkybraid/index.htm

Alexia: It's 50% Dome and 50% PlastikHaar, although I just got a new install yesterday of 100% PlastikHaar (will post photos soon). My real hair is a total mess: It's anywhere from 2 to 6 inches long, depending on the part of head, but I had massive damage after hairlocs and GLs, and now my hair underneath the braids is growing out well. (The hair on top of my head has always been much more prone to breakage and is a nightmare.)

Well, I get pinchbraids, but you can use virtually any method with it: heat-seals, shrinkies, or extendtubes. Whatever you prefer. If you're getting them done in a salon, I would opt for pinchbraids or heat-seals. If you're DIY, I would order shrinkies or extendtubes.

Jenny that tutorial was great thanks for finding the link for me.  Im going to order some ph to practise with before i introduce it into the salon.
