When comb my hair, i notice that my hair is straight..and the last 1 cm is bent at an angle..this part breaks off easily when i pull on it..as a result, when i comb my hair..i see lots of 1 centimetre long hair on the floor..what can i do to make my hair healthier and stop the weird bents at the ends of my hair?

Hi Mintychoc,

Do you have any idea what is causing the 1-centimeter bend at the ends of your hair?  I think the answer to your question will be to avoid whatever is causing your strands to be bent at the ends.

I hate to suggest this on the long hair board, but you might actually want to get the last 1cm cut off so all of your hair will end in a blunt, perpendicular to strand, cut.  If they break off on their own they are likely to be in a weakened state (with the potential for more of the inside part of the hair exposed) and split more quickly making your damage climb your hair.

You do need to fix the cause like Dave said though, or it will just happen again.  Are you tearing through your hair when you comb it so you rip out the tangles at the ends?  Or gently starting at the bottom and gradually getting to the root area?

edit:  Dang!  Can't spell!

oh, i've been combing my hair from the scalp down..maybe that's the problem....i'm an asian but my hair knots itself (as in a knot in 1 strand of hair)...it's really unhealthy, i think i have to cut it off..

i'll try combing from the bottom now on..thanks for the tip!

You might also want to try some seriously deep conditioning.  I had a lot of breakage a few months ago and I don't see much of it anymore now that I condition my hair like there's no tomorrow.

Also, what kind of brush do you use?  Brushes with plastic bristles and tiny knobs on the ends can be really rough on your hair.

Clarify your hair with apple cider vinegar rinses! The less clarifying, the harder it will be to comb.

Do you straighten your hair at all? Because I used to straighten my hair loads every day, and the ends got all burnt and broken, so my hairdresser cut about an inch off the bottom and told me not to straighten my hair everyday, and i use a deep conditioning treatment once a week (John Frieda Blonde stuff) and now the ends aren't as bad! Have been doing that for about a month now. But i would get the ends cut off now if I were you, because as Susan W said it could climb and damage the rest of you hair :O

no, i do not straighten my hair, in fact i have very curly/frizzy hair, i think i'm going to have to trim my hair to remove the split ends.

Hello dear!  I too use to have your problem.  It seems to not be as bad anymore.  So you have curly frizzy hair?  Have you tried serums and anti-frizz stuff?  Or perhaps a light leave in conditioner mist.

I myself have thin ...very FINE hair.  But it frizzes and so on.  I started using Natures Therapy leave in heat control, and let me tell you...it works wonderfully!  It makes my hair sooo soft!  And since your hair is curly seems like you could add a little bit of shine oil (very little) to help with the shine of course and maybe slick down the frizzys a bit.

Oh, and MOST DEF, trim the broken bent peices...they will only break off and leave hair looking more straggely and stringy!  Start a new with fresh blunt ends!

Trimmed ends, and lots of deep conditioning should help!

Hope that helps! Best of luck
