i have the craziest hair - 50% curly, 50% straight...here at the philippines, the really IN thing is straight hair...considering my hair type, i have never really been in the IN crowd. saloons are making a lot out of desperate girls having their hair straightened out.
however, recently, i heard that straight hair is so OUT anywhere else in the world. is that true?

They can declare an entire hair type "out"? Seems a bit silly to me. . . though I guess it's no different than times when dark hair is "out" and everyone wants to be blonde, or whatever. . . both will cause a whole big segment of population to fry their hair chasing some trend :-P . . . No wonder I'm not a very trendy person ^_^ .

I remember how last year's Miss USA pageant was all about blondes, but this year, the top 5 all had dark brown hair.
I think the flat flat straight hair is out, but any type of hair with body is in.

I can say that having been in the Philippines recently but living in America that straight hair like they have there is definately trending out. A couple of years ago the hairstyles here were absolutely stick straight, long, and simple like you see there. The number of chemical straightening processes offered there and the resulting styles of hair that is so unnaturally straight are not really in style here anymore. More of a natural look with more layers and some waves is really more the norm.

Also if you compare the Philippines with the rest of Asia then straight hair is DEFINATELY out. Japan, HK, Singapore, etc. have almost nobody with similar styles. Much more popular, especially for the young are shaggy or curly styles. Like mentioned above its way to general to say "straight hair is out" but I know what you're referring to in the Philippines and its not simply "straight"

You seem to be saying that women with naturally straight hair have to get a perm to have a natural look?

No, I'm saying that in terms of "in" and "out" hair that has been super processed to an unnaturally straight state is not in style throughout the world like it is in the Philippines in my opinion. Obviously its an opinion based on my experienced and I have not in fact interviewed everyone in the world so you should take it for what its worth. Why read message boards if you're going to be so sensative and take things so literally? I didn't think the post was that hard to figure out.

I don't feel straight hair will ever be "out", it's so natruallooking and isn't the natural look "in"? :) There are soo many ways to wear straight hair.

Every season they talk about the "natural look" coming back in, but if you read the articles and look at the pictures, that particular look is in fact the result of professional treatments, extensive heat styling and copious quantities of hair products.
Natural is wonderful, curly, wavy, kinky, straight. As my hair grows longer, I am finding that below the straight section I have developed waves. Who'd'a thunk it?

No chance of that happening. My hair isn't down to the floor.

Everyone here in the US wants desperately wants super-straight hair. Here, teenagers flat-iron their hair every morning. Not that it matters to me what is in or not. I just do whatever I think looks good and what I am comfortable with. Do whatever you want with your hair! The only tting that matters is if you like it.

Damn that's pretty long hair that person has in that pic. If I grew my hair to be that long, I think I would lose most of my strands - all except one or two left!!!!!

Hi Rabbithead,
"That person" would be me, yours truly.
And yes, almost all of my strands are gone at the ends. It's a
natural taper. The ends haven't been trimmed in 3 years.
