Just thought I'd put this out there...

You can rent a heat wand from http://www.shrinkies.net - www.shrinkies.net  for ten days foy $14.99. That is a great idea! She already has a great price on the wand but now you can make certain you want to make the investment!

Hey did anyone notice she says her wand goes to 200C?

I have Docs which only goes to 180C (356F) which means it won't heat seal therm.  I wonder if this is hot enough.

I know someone (metalgirl?) used a heat gun (Dome Prostyles???) recently and got therm to seal.

I think she ballparked the temp as 400 F.

this would go to 392F...

I can attest the thing gets scorchin' hot but my little soap thermometers only get up to 220 degrees.

How do you heat seal? Send me something to try or tell me how to do it and I'll post the results and pics if successful.

I tried test heat sealing on the weft.

I made a little braid right on the weft and then wrapped a section around and heated it with the iron.

Its like a pinch braid but you wrap with a little bit of the synth hair and then heat the little tiny wrapped part.

yeah I'm articulate today...

Do you have any therm sitting around?

If i'm as confusing as I think I am I'll try digging out the camera later.

OK, so I can take a strand of human hair (or synth), braid it like a pinchbraid, wrap some PH around it and then melt it on there with the wand. Right? Or do you want me to try heatsealing it with thermal hair?

I know your wand is hot enough for PH.  my wand is hot enough for PH and it only goes to 180 C

But I'm hoping its hot enough for therm.  Or at least curious.

And really you wouldn't even have to make a heat seal just see if the therm will melt.  preffereably not fry burn etc.  But you could always turn the temp down then...

Newp, no heat seal. I tried wawa and ebonyline thermal. A Brinkman thermometer got just shy of 175 celsius and that's with the end still poking out the back of the iron. The curved tip of the wand won't let a thermometer register a temp from all sides so it's exposed out the tip and on parts of the side. I never could get the iron's light to turn off at 200 so these may actually only get to 180. I will change the info on the site. And I'm actually pleased about that because it's scorchin' hot as is. For regular wand use, melting THERMAL synth was not what I was hoping for.

PS - I'm also waiting for the Doc's type wand. Should be in any day now. Should they arrive with no hidden charges, they'll be about $25-$30 less than what Doc offers. We'll see, though. This company hasn't gotten anything right yet.

Thanks so much! I just love natural soapmaking but it sure is a lot of work. More than I ever imagined.

A timely little update on that is that I've been in negotiations with a huge company in China to export my soap. It'll be shipped over in logs, unlabeled and uncut and will be marketed and sold in some upscale shops in the UK, 9 stores currently in Asia with 25 expected by year's end and 100 by 2006.

Needless to say, I am overwhelmed. My web site is slowly losing all its inventory and I can't keep up. Now I'm at a crossroad - do I quit my job and do this fulltime or do I continue to run myself ragged?

I'm glad you guys like the wand idea. Just thought it might come in useful for those who don't want to invest just to find out DIY is not for them.

And I just got the multi-temperature wand in that's sold on Doc's. I have them for $30 less if anyone is interested. :)
