| Well, thanks to everyone's encouragement, I made an attempt at a pinchbraid install! Most were kind of loose and not as neat as I would have liked them, but a few turned out pretty good! I'm glad to say at least I gave it a try. However, I've regretfully decided to go back to fusion, and here's why. One, pinchbraids are taking me FOR-E-VER and a year. It took me 4 hours to get 20 done. Two, they turned out kind of messy, and loose. They were definitely secure, no doubt about that, but they just looked bad. I'd be constantly afraid that the wind would blow the wrong way and reveal these ugly things attached to my head. Three, they're just too big for my thin hair. I wouldn't be able to put my hair up in a pony tail without the bulges showing through. I did, however, make a few tiny ones that would have been a lot easier to conceal, but considering how long it took me to do 20 regular sized braids, I can't even begin to think how long it would take me to do enough tiny ones to look decent. Four, picking those threads out is a pain like nothing else. Little hairs get tangled regardless of my sticky hair spray to keep things in place (though the spray did help tremendously). So I'm going back to fusion. I really didn't want to keep doing fusion because even though my first 2 installs went pretty well, lately I've been beginning to get breakage. I'm not sure if I'm getting careless about how rough I handle my hair or if the fusion is just starting to take it's toll. I really hoped pinchbraids would be a better alternative, but at this rate, it would take me until the next ice age to finish a whole head! I guess I'm going to do a new fusion install tomorrow. Anyone have any good tips for reducing breakage? I obviously haven't been caring for them as well as I should. Thanks for reading! |

| I'm so sorry that the pinchbraids haven't worked out for you. Why don't you try the extentubes. I've had so much success with them after having fusion for so many years x |

I takes a long time to learn how to do pinchbraids well. Even a lot of
people who do them on clients' hair can't do them on their own heads.
But maybe if you keep practicing you'll be able to do them in 3 months
or 6 months. In the meantime, if you're having breakage with fusion, why not try shrinkies or extendtubes? :) |

Bird I could see how pinchbraids would be too difficult for someone to do on their own head. Its a method I havent even attempted (yet....never say never!) I used fusion for years without alot of damage, but yes with the combination of harsh chemicals that I use along with the fusion, I was seeing a bit more damage. Ive switched to shrinkies, and let me tell ya, its very easy to do. So there are options besides fusion. The extentubes or shrinkies might work for you.

| Is it easy to do shrinkies on your own head? I am getting ready to put some in my hair, but I was going to have a stylist do it, but.......if I could do it on my own, I could save $$$ and time. |

| I love this board, you guys are soooooooo great! Let's see here. I thought of trying shrinkies and extendtubes, but here's the story on that. Back about 2 years ago when I first started hearing about microrings, I was posting on Quinn's board and a lot of the girls over there were talking about the metal shearing through their natural hair (eeek). More recently I've been following talk on this board of newer and improved brands that don't slice through your natural hair. I definitely thought about giving that a try, but then I also saw pictures (on this forum I think) of the metal showing right through some people's hair who had naturally thin or fine hair. That's why I haven't tried extendtubes. As for shrinkies, I haven't tried 'em. I did try dual wall heat shrink tubing. It didn't turn out well. It didn't shrink down far enough, and removing them was a *@#!! The tubing itself came off fine, but that glue residue.........man it was awful. That's one of the things I love about fusion. A drop of acentone, a quick pinch of the pliers, and it crumbles into a powder that brushes right out of my hair. Removal is a breeze! Anyhow, I guess I'd be willing to try out extendtubes and shrinkies to see if they'd work for me. Anyone have about 10 or so they'd be willing to send out for me to test? I'd send you a self addressed stamped envelope for your troubles!!!!!! And I also have the Sally futura thermofiber if you'd like a sample for your own testing.
