I believe it's important to report the good AND the bad, and I appreciate it when other people do it so I'm gonna go out on a limb here and made a 2-1/2 week PB report.
So far, I've lost 20 braids with more sliding out every day. When they're not coming out, they shed ALL DAY LONG and I'm not joking. It's like the hair just slithers out of the individual braids and, well, sheds! My brushes are constantly full of hair, there's hair all over my house and my car...I can't take it anymore. I know it's not the hair - it's PH and many many women are having zero shedding and zero problems. It must be my hair - it's just very fine and very slick! On the one hand, that's good (it's shiny and smooth) but on the other, well, things just don't stay in! Maybe heat seals would work better, or another type of pb like Rae has on her tutorial, where the hh and the synth combine in one strand of the braid. Who knows. But whatever is going on now is definitely not working. I know not everything works for everyone. I'm not whining. Just reporting the facts, ma'am...and pretipping a whole bunch of hair in preparation for pb replacement with those killer black shrinkies. |

Ughhh so sorry to hear that. I thought you had had PB's before? if not what were you doing before? these were 3way pinch braids right? Rae(I think) gave out some advice on Quinn's board a while ago. thread's probably gone now. But best thing I have heard. she was preaching the joy of the 4 way box braid. I can't get crap to stay with a 3 way but the box braid solves all my problems. of ocurse you'd have to find someone... luck with your shrinkies what are you pretipping with? LG? silicone? latex? |

Sounds like the braids never got secured properly? I don't know pinchbraids from shinola but it would seem they're not tied on tight enough if they keep coming out and the hair sheds. | Not to worry. I'm convinced it's a combination of my hair and possibly operator error - not tight enough, maybe the 3-way braid isn't good for me, any number of things. It is a shame but certainly not the end of the world. THE HARDEST THING about the whole extension thing is finding someone to do it! I only have sight in one eye - the left - and it's distance, so even with every mirror in the house, I can't see well enough to put the back ones in myself. |

I'm sorry to hear that Syren. I saw those pictures of your braids and they looked about 100 times better than the few pinchbraids I did on myself. I did a few just to test them out a few months ago. I thought for sure they'd slip out within a few days, but they lasted until I took them out (over a month). Maybe like you said, your hair being so fine and slick. Maybe a dab of glue to hold them in place would help. I think it would definitely eliminate the shedding. I tried a pinchbraid install on myself last night. Your pictures as well as another person's pictures had inspired me to try this method. Unfortunately, I'm not so good at pinchbraiding, so I took them all out. Tonight I'm doing a fusion install. I'm actually on a break right now. Well I'm sorry to hear about that. It's definitely got to be dissapointing. But the good thing is that there are other methods for you to try. Let us know what you do! |

Wow. I'm completely floored. I've worn pinchbraids for over a year, and
I've only lost one ever and I *never* have any shedding. I don't even
know how it would be possible, unless the hair wasn't secured well
enough. I'm sorry to hear this, Syren, and I hope it doesn't turn you off to braiding methods in general. Maybe a different stylist would have more luck. :) |

| Syren, I have fine hair and it is very silky and slippery, I've even had great lengths slip out of my hair, yet the pinch braids stay in - I can't even get them out if I try! I second Jenny's suggestion of trying another stylist. |

Syren - Have you talked to your stylist about it? She should at least be able to put the ones that you lost back in and check for other loose ones. Sorry you had a bad experience but maybe she can fix it for you. -Heather |

Well, she may. But before she put them in, she said she can't guarantee anything cuz she's not providing the hair (it would have been Trimco from Hair Police). I wanted to use PH. So I really don't have much recourse, nor do I want any, really. If it had been her hair, yes. I would have definitely asked for some help.
Here's another thing. I know she's taking the Hairlocks course and is trying to move in that direction. I understand it from a $$ perspective: she's down in Orange County and there are lots of women who PREFER paying big $ for their extensions regardless of the type, etc - it makes them feel better. And I believe she (the stylist) wants to attract a more affluent clientele - right now most of her clients are artsy and don't have any money! So I think she's not as interested in doing a 6 hr pinchbraid installation for $475 when she could be doing a $2000 hairlocks job, know what I mean? I'm not crumbing. I understand where she's coming from totally. So I'm just chalking this experience up as a learning one and am going to try someone and something else next time. Thanks, Heather and everyone. I appreciate your sympathy and suggestions! Anyone know a heatseal/Dome/Prostyles stylist in the LA area?! That would be really helpful! |

| Trimco was the synth the stylist used after the hh pinchbraids ratted up. It started slipping right away. Like my rhymes hair is smmooooooth. Word. Something rhymy. |

| Hairlocs......they're a different brand of extendtubes. They're made of copper and I remember hearng people talk of them shearing through their natural hair. I didn't think people really charged thousands of dollars for that. I thought the only extensions that stylists charge thousands of dollars for were the brand names like Great Lengths, because their hair is extremely expensive. Either way, you're going to spend a number of hours doing any kind of loose extensions. |

Bird - From what I've seen Hairlocs think they are right up there with
Great Lengths. It's all in the propaganda. All you need is
one relatively satisfied celebrity client and lots of up front money
for promotion and you too can have a 'revolutionary new damage free
hair extension system used byt he stars' |

| I was looking online and the websites I saw were charging from $375-$900 for hairlocs. And I agree about the GL, it's all about the propaganda. I do my own fusion for about $80 (maybe $100 if I use rush shipping). |

I dont' want to get too far off the PB topic but here's the deal with locs/shells/microrings/whathaveyou...
You do the initial install and attach the extension to your real strand of hair and then clamp the ring down. Now, when maintenance time comes around, you open the ring, pull out whatever is shed, push the ring up and then close it again. It's now gone over the same strands of hair which are actually thinner because of naturally shed hair. Does anyone else see the problem with this? Can that thinner bunch of your real hair support another 2 - 3 month span before another adjustment is made? You're all exactly right. But I'm telling you, this propaganda SELLS. These women WANT - I repeat WANT - to spend $2000 on their hair with the system Paris Hilton or whomever uses! They FEEL BETTER paying more, propaganda and all. The facts be damned. Even Serina tried that line on me...it's the system the stars use....and I had to bite my tongue and not go into a tirade since she had only just started working on me.

Syren - I don't mean to sound harsh, but I think that's bullsh*t. I've worked with both of those brands [and others] and I don't see why the hair should be the issue. In my experience human hair is more likely to slip than any synthetic, because it can be so much softer than synth when it's first installed, but PH isn't any softer than any other brand of synth. Sure, it's always possible [and even common for some people] to have a few slip, but your situation seems excessive. Of course I don't know all the details; there's always a possibility that it's a product or maintenance issue...but even then, your stylist should be there to help you if you have a problem. I can understand not guaranteeing the product, but you were paying for a service, and that service should have some sort of guarantee with it...no matter the price. I understand not wanting to go back, but she may not even realize there's a problem. I'd definitely want to know if a client was having any sort of problem so I could do everything in my power to fix it. If you ever want to try pinchbraids again, I highly recommend Mayo.
