Does anyone else here do fusion or is it just me? I know many people have had bad experiences with it, including me, but I have also had some some good experiences too. I'd be interested in talking with some fusion people about issues in reducing stress and damage to natural hair while using fusion. Actually, I have a lot to talk about: size of sectioning, amount of natural hair, amount of extension hair, rolling techniques, amount of glue, breakdown of glue over time, etc... I've been fine tuning and experimenting with different techniques and I'd be really interested to hear other people's experiences/findings with their own techniques. Anyone out there?

I did a few last night actually using those finger guards, they looked kinda ok but I didn't feel they looked very neat so I would like to talk about the amount of glue and rolling techiques x

Amanda,
When I use more glue, it usually forms a really solid bond that tends to last until I take it out, but then the bond is bigger and rounder as opposed to tiny and cylendrical. When I use less glue, the bond is smaller and looks much "neater" but then seems to break down quicker. I can't really decide which is better. As for rolling, I don't use the finger guards. It sometimes burns my fingers, but personally I don't mind too much. I have been rolling from the top of the bond and down. I find that when I do it that way, it makes a neater/more solid bond. If I begin rolling in the middle, then the top of the bond cools quicker and you're left with uneven glue distribution,n (almost like an hourglass shape) which also seems to lead to quicker breakdown of the bond. Also, when I just put the glue at the very tips, it seems to make a neater bond. When I first started out with fusion, I had the habit of spreading the glue a bit further down the hair. I guess I felt that it would add extra reinforcement, but I don't find that necessary as long as you've made a solid bond. Sometimes I find it difficult to get the glue saturated throughout the natural hair before it begins to cool, and I think total saturation is the key to forming a solid bond. Usually it cools at lightening fast speed as soon as my fingers touch it. Perhaps I should try the finger pads. Do you get super fast cooling using the pads or do you find the glue to stay liquidy during the rolling process? Also, are you using pretips or a glue gun or hot pot? If you're using pretips, is it nail or stick hair? And are you using a heat tool to purge the bond once you've rolled it? I find that purging the bond (and I actually am using an ultra slim flat iron) and re-roll, that helps tremendously with the glue distribution and "neatness" factor.

I use both the Great lengths and So Caps fusion methods and I love them. I have been doing them for about a year and I have had only one clients that was unhappy with them. I would love to communicate with you.

Do you use Kristen's glue Bird? I find it cools really quickly, I might try just using my fingers, I can't seem to get a uniform bond with the finger guards they are quite thick so I can't tell how I'm rolling. I was also rolling from the middle so now I'll try the top first see if that works better. I was also trying to put more glue on the tip of the hair but I also found it better if I just put some on the top, that produced a neater bond. Do you put your glued strand behind your natural hair and then press them together between finger and thumb and then roll? I'm just using the regular glue gun from Kirsten. I'm not using anything after I've rolled it xxx

I do put the glued strand behind the natural hair first. I did try the whole pressing them together thing, but I found that the glue cools too fast to press them together and THEN start rolling. I'd end up with bonds with irregular ridges instead of a smooth cylendar shape. Now I just get the strand into the right position and do a 'press 'n roll'! LOL, gotta work quickly. It's difficult at first, but you pick it up fairly quickly. I may try your idea of just putting the glue at the top and see how I do with that. If you have a heat clamp, try it out on a few strands after your first initial rolling. I find that it saturates the glue throughout the natural hair and extension hair very well, and then your second roll is much neater. But if you can get good saturation and a really neat bond on the first roll, no need for reheating a rerolling. For myself, I just find that the glue cools too fast for a really good saturation. And you need that saturation for the bond to hold up over time. Otherwise, as the bond breaks down and your glue wasn't saturated enough, the distribution will be unequal and the strands fall right out, usually taking a few strands of your natural hair along with it (where the glue was more saturated in that area than in another). I don't know if I'm explaining very well. I wish I had a 3D diagram to illustrate what I'm trying to say.

Thanks for the tip Bird! I was rolling from the middle too. I always have to purge/reheat the bond cause it does cool fast. I use my shrinkie wand. Yeah I use x10...it cools quickly. Then again I used anoter brand(not sure the name) it cooled just as fast if not faster.

So Caps is just the name, the hair is pre tipped just like GL. I have them installed in my own hair. The only difference I find in them is they are easier to remove than GL.
