Hello, I saw two people that I hadn`t seen in months. One of used to work at the same place I do and the other one is my dentist`s secretary. When I saw them I was stunned to see how long and beautiful their hair was. It looked so shiny, healthy and long. I asked each of them how they grew their hair this way. I remember seeing their hair a little past their shoulders. Each of them told me that they get monthly trims (just a little bit of hair). Do any of you also trim your hair on a monthly basis? Have you seen this help your hair?
Please let me know.
Thank you, Martha

I trim my hair about every 6 months. My hair doesn`t seem to need trimmed often. I guess I must take really good care of it; I`ve never had any split ends. My hair averages 1/2 inch a month which is typical. If I got a trim every month then it would take twice as long to grow.

hmm...well personally i get my hair trimmed every month but of course i only get like 1/8" trimmed off and my hair grows about 3/4" a month so i don`t really mind it much:) my hair gets split ends very quickly so i have to get it trimmed...if i didn`t work at a place which believes long hair on guys is wrong and didn`t have to wear that stupid hat all the time i wouldn`t have such weak hair;/

I`ll be interested in the replies to this one, because I am wrestling with the same issue myself. My hair is longer than ever, and about two inches from my goal.
The girls I know with beautiful, very long hair say the trick is to get one good cut and then blow off the salon for several months and just let it /grow/. This is at odds with everything I`ve ever read in beauty magazines, which say that you MUST get trims every 6 to 8 weeks, no matter what. Of course, beauty mags support the beauty industry...

they say to trim this often to either keep a style in shape (and long hair doesn`t really need this!) and also to keep them in business. if everyone went to the hairdresser once a year there certainly woudln`t be the need for so many hairdressers! personally, i have a haircut at the hairdresser about once a year. i have my mum or a close friend trim about 1/8-1/4" from the ends every few months which keeps them straight, but only do this when it needs it. i think that if you cut your hair every month it would certainly slow your growth progress! i think that the trick is to take really good care of your hair, and then you don`t have the need for cutting at all! good luck!

I get a dusting about once a month. That is where you snip off any split ends and any strays that are longer than the rest, but don`t take off any of the length. I have my room mate do it for me. I do her hair the same way. We are both growing our hair out and trust that the other will not cut off too much. Right now mine is about to the top of my bra strap in the back. I want to grow my hair to my waist so I really don`t want to lose any length when I get trims. My room mate`s hair is a few inches longer and also would like hers to her waist.
