I just finished my first shrinkie install. This is a picture, bear in mind I just finished and haven't styled it or trimmed the ratty ends yet, I usually wear it with a bit more of a curl.

Also, now I see it as a picture, I think I may dye the blonde bits a lighter red, i think they stand out a little too much, and make it look too 'strandy' I dunno, anyway, here it is:

I used human, I got it from Docs and am actually not too impressed with the quality, I had better luck with the hair I've got from notjustwigs. I like the colour too :) I've had it close to black for ages but wanted a more summery colour so I used a dye remover and then I used Garnier 100% colour in 562. You can see that dark patch though where the black was too resistant for me. ha.

IS that your naatural hair right around shoulder level?  If so you got a fabulous color match.  Did you dyee the extensions hair to match?  If not what color is that from Docs?

It looks good now, so after a little trimming and styling I expect it will be *amazing*

And my standard questions
How many? how high up did you go?

Yeah thats sucks about the hair. Some other people had tried out the hair from there and had bad results as well. Its too bad too cause they're regular products like shrinkies and stuff seem pretty good.Yeah I can relate.I've had some dye that just didnt want to come all the way out.

I did dye the hair to match, that is what I generally do... I never know what colour I'm going to do my hair so I never know what color to order, so I usually just get a mid brown and dye it.

i did about 130 all together, and went up to maybe 3 inches from the crown at a guess...

i might go higher after I've worn it for a few days and seen how it styles and whatnot.

thank you! my boyfriend says he likes them too, I think I will live with it for a week or so, and see how I like it after that.

Now I have to go brave the infamous first night of sleeping on a new set of extensions :(

hi Dunebug,

if you do decide to dye the blonde bits redder take care... I did this once with some human hair I got from a friend and the results were disappointing...

it all depends on the quality of the hair being coloured...

I'd stick with the look you have got... the contrasts work well...

ps:  when you installed your shrinkies, did you find it easy... have you any advice or comments?  I'm going to be using shrinkies soon...

I agree, dying HH can be hit and miss, but the rest dyed fine so I'm thinking it will be ok.

I did find the shrinkie install pretty easy, after my initial panic that they weren't holding when I was practicing on some spare HH I had. Once I started putting them in my own head they held fine. I lost 3 today, but that's to be expected, I'll wait and see how they hold up over time before I decide this is my new favourite method.

The only thing I found tricky was figuring out how to feel whether or not I had the shrinkie in my heat wand without burning myself when I was doing around the back. I am used to doing a modified version of PB's on myself, and i do that by feel, so the hard part was holding the shrinkie + pretip close to my scalp and then feeling if my heat wand was properly positioned before clamping down. I eventually got it down by making sure my thumb was turned so that I could bump the heat wand against my thumbnail and feel where it was without burning myself. It was trial and error really, but I got it down in the end.
