Hi I am pretty new to doing hair extensions, I have quite a good clientelle list now but i don't know how to cut. It's never been a problem but recently i done a lady with short hair, 3" top and about 1" around the back and sides. This client has the thickest hair i have ever seen, she has a t least the hair of 2+ people. Anyway, i installed about 7oz of bohyme hair, and it was lovely from the back and sides but looked a bit peculiar from the front. She new from the biginning that i couldn't cut so she wasn't too bothered as she loved it. A friend of mine is a stylist so she came the following morning and done the final cut. I need to learn how to cut, I was thinking about a short college course to learn the basics, There is one running in my local college in september, " AN INTRODUCTION TO FAMILY HAIRDRESSING" this is a ten week course, of 3 hours per week. Can anyone tell me will this be enough? and what do i actually need to learn? is there a self learn guide anywhere that anyone know about? ie; a video or a book i could read. Any help would be gratefully apprecieted.

Extensions look beft Razor cut however scissor cut can look equally as good depending on what look your customers going for.  You will have to cut the extensions when dry and not wet.  Also i find that you have to have a firm hold of the hair when leveling it to cut as the strands can spring up when first done so its quite important so the hair is cut straight.  You can finnish the hair off with fine razoring.  I also like to feathering the customers hair at the front so that it looks more natural but again this depends on your client.

I have a stylist that does all the blending for me as Im fully qualified for extensions but not a full stylist.  She is great.  I can razor cut but just not with scissors so i too will be looking for a course to go on for this.

I cut extensions by slide cutting with my sharp scissors all the time.

Thanks for that Shell'  I have a razor combe and have done a few blends with that and also cut in the sides, to give it a more graduated fall. This always looks good, but it's the shorter hair that has to be styled. This i cannot do. I probably coulkd if i tried but don't want to spoil the whole extension by ballsing up the cut. Do you think the class i mentioned would be enough?

Hi birdofeden. My stylist friend showed me how to do this, Twist the hair and side cut all the way down the shaft. or get a razor combe it's easier.
