Hi, Everyone!

I posted awhile back with questions about installing shrinkies with Hairlocs hair. Well, just to be double secure, I went over the pre-tips with Aleen's tacky glue and my mom put them in for me. We used Amm's shrinkies ( thanks Amm!!) and Doc's heat wand...everything went well except for the fact that , as former Hairlocs technicians, we found the process much more tedious!  I have been wearing them for 5 weeks now and have only had 5 come out...so I'm pretty happy with that! We are getting ready to take them out so I can color my little peekaboo grays and give my hair a good Pro-pack...they are already grown out to the point my hair is starting to twist (naturally wavy!) and I am seeing alot of little bulbs from the shed hair already ( hope that doesnt mean disaster is coming!) Can someone answer a few questions for me..PLEASE?

1) When I took two out yesterday, just to see how hard it will be...I noticed ALOT of shed hair came out too after I used the remover and combed it out! Ugh! Is there a DELICATE process for removal I dont know about?

2)How long do I apply the heat to the shrinkie to slide it out and should it be full temp or just a bit warm?

I have a few questions about my next installation too! But I will put them in a different post, as this one is long enough!lol.

Thanks for any help!

Denise

The shedding is totally natural. Everyone loses about 100 hairs a day, and yo've had them in for 35 days, so you've got up to 3500 hars trapped in your shrinkies! I'd say it's okay as long as you dont feel and hairs breaking or being pulled out while you're doing the removal.

Thanks Rae,

I know from past exp. to expect those shed hairs...but man when I took down my Hairlocs, my hair volume in total was decreased my at least HALF!...Alot of it was damaged during removal but also..my hair is VERY VERY fine...and I am noticing that some of the strands that have grown out look like they are getting WAY thin! I told my mom to make sure she applied the strands to substantial pieces of my own hair...but that darn Hairlocs threader is sooo tiny , it's hard to get a good size piece of hair! I am thinking about having her use the Doc's threader ...but you just cant fit many shrinks at once on there. Are there any other threaders out there that would make it easier to get bigger pieces of hair?

As for the being careful while doing takedown.  I took down about 40-50 shrinkies yesterday.  Rub the oil on and brush your hair from the ends after you've let it sit a while.  That gets tons of the easy shed hairs out.  Then rub the oilin to the spots again.

I didn't comb the residue out.  I just washed and then brushed like normal.  there's a couple little sticky spots leftbut I didn't feel like my hair was breaking.

Hi Mocha,

I see..so I want to apply the remover ( Amm's remover I have) to each one as I take them out, then brush the ends and apply more remover and shampoo. Does that get most of the shrinkie residue out? That stuff is pretty stubborn stuff!  I notice when the glue dries a bit and turns kinda white, it seems to comb out better. But me trying to pick it, comb it, pick some more right after I apply the remover was not such a great idea. I wish there was something in the shower you could use to get  it to "loosen" up a bit. Anyone know of something or a potent shampoo?
