Today I tried highlighting my hair with a permanent kit.  I have black hair and waned some blonde highlights.  It started to look good so I washed out the dye but it was more of an orange color.  I tried re-highlighting it but it didn't do anything.  Is there anything I can do to turn this orangish hair to blonde?  Or can I dye it back to black?

If you want it blond, you'll need a stronger bleach to lighten it enough to remove all the orange, then you'll need a toner to color it blond.

You can dye it back to black, using a semipermanent or demipermanent color. It will fade over time, just reapply to the streaks.

OK thanks!  I'm gonna dye it back to black now.  Maybe I'll go get highlights at a salon when I go for my haircut.  Is dying so much in a short amount of time bad for hair?

Yes, it's bad. If you want salon highlights, you should probably not color it black, which will make it pretty impossible for them to do highlights over.

To get it blonde, probably you should make the earliest appointment you can to your stylist and wear a hat or wig if it looks too bad, until you can get there.  Probably shouldn't touch it with any other dye again until you get to the salon.  There'll be a lot of damage to get dark hair blonde, no matter the method, though.

Hahaha I dyed it back to black already.  I guess I'll stick with all black until it grows out and then get some highlights.  Thanks!

Ahh, I can't stand having all black hair anymore >< I used a permanent dye to fix my hair.  It feels pretty healthy like before I colored it.  Should I re-try it using bleach or will it mess up my hair?

It will probably mess up your hair, without getting enough of the black out to get the highlights you want.

How long is your hair, and are you planning on growing it longer?

Hmm I read some stuff about Colorfix.  What if I used that to remove the dye?

My hair's about an inch right now, I usually get it cut when it gets to about 2 inches.

oh, i thought we were talking long hair here. if its that short, it shouldnt be too hard to let it grow out untill the highlighted parst are gone.  i wouldnt want to mess around with color fix, but thats just me. im not really sure how color fix works either, ive always bleached to get lighter color. i have heard that even color fix has trouble removing black hairdye.

learn to love what you were born with
you can do anything if you set your mindto it (just dont try this with hair, that could turn out bad)

Ya, I wanted the last resort to be letting it grow out.  But if it's gonna get all messed up again, I guess I should just wait.
