..and anyone else.  Who do you all use for your website hosting?  Im desperately needing to change so i can update my website and need a new company that someone can recommend.  Id be interested to hear from all of you as i want to check out all different companies that people have had experience with.

I need somewhere easy to upload pictures and be able to alter them at any time.

Thanks

x

I use Hosting Matters (hostmatters.com) for two of my web sites. I
pay $11 a month, I think. There's never been any problem with
them.

I am also in the process of comparing hosting companies, lowesthosting.com you get a free shopping cart w/ 200mb space ($4.95/month)- godaddy has the most disk space w/ 2,000 mb ($9.95/month) but to add a shopping cart its 29.95/month...

How much space does your site take amm? (if you don't mind sharing)

Merguthrie - what is your site?

I have a local company for my web hosting and I don't recommend them.  I pay $140 per year, but anytime I want to change anything, including pictures on my website, they charge me an additional fee.

I am also looking for someone else to host my site.

I use gaijin.com for my domain name hosting- it's something like $15-20 a year. My actual webspace is located on retina.net, which is a friend's server so I get it for the price of a drink every time I see him. :) I dunno that retina.net is high-volume enough to do commercial hosting, but I have several friend swho host their stuff on www.laughingsquid.net and are very happy with them. Plus it's just really fun saying "I have the Giant Squid plan."

Also- fees to -change- something? Like to do your own webwork, or to have -them- change it? Being charged to do your own uploading is f**king ridiculous. Settle for no less than 24/7/365 full access to all your files with no extra charge. It doesn't cost -them- anything extra if you change your page three times a day, so why should they charge you for it?

I think i will try all these companies everyone suggests and get quotes as the company im with are unreliable and dont have a guaranteed uptime but most of all they charge me by the minute to upload, read email etc.  The catch is that i cant upload or read email unless im loged onto them.  On the plus side, i have no monthly / annual fees and have a large chunk of space (unlimited they say) although in the small print it suggests that they wouldnt allow me space for something with massive traffic, i guess like a board like this with so many visitors.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

I've been using Surf22Hosting.com I think I pay $19.99 but I have a ton of stuff on my site that isn't connected to HairCandy ( I have lots of separate pages set up to share pictures with my friends etc...)

I think that's 100MB but I could be wrong. They've always been super nice and actually answered all my questions I ran into while building my site

Ive actually just remembered that if i do change companies, i will need someone to host my domain as well as my site! Ahhh!

Its all so frustrating.  Although i managed to sort out the uploading files matter, it seems that my site has only updated on microsoft internet explorer but not aol.  Weird?? Im going to email them again.
