What would you do? My hair is naturally dark brown and just past my
shoulders.
I had a horrible hair color experience with bleach and I have lots of
damage and very dry. That was about 1 year ago, so I have approx.
6 inches of new growth.
The first six inches of my hair (the new hair) is nice and shiny. The
remaining length is very dry, with lots of breakage. There is a
definite division, almost like a "line" that divides the top and bottom.
I really want to highlight my hair. I've waited for a year now and I
think I look so much better with lighter hair. Don't know if I can wait
another year until all the damage is grown out.. Can I highlight,
now? I just hate the damage, but don't want to cut my lenght too
much either.
What are my options? What would you do?
THANKS!!!

Even Highlighting the already damaged hair will damage it more.
Highlighting still contains bleach. Any kit will and any Salonist will
use it.
I did my own highlights and I got over excessive in one spot with the
cream and my hair broke off. (only in those parts.) I've over bleach my
hair and so it wasn't a good idea to apply a hard bleach to the already
processed parts.
Is your hair back to being all one color? the dark brown or is it still lighter?
I'd go to a salon and ask, I myself wouldn't re-highlight bleached hair, not if yours is as bad as it sounds.
Mine is back to being healthy and shiny, even due to the small
breakage, but I wouldn't risk highlighting it. I have almost black
hair, I'm blonde now.
I'm not a pro but I've had a bad experience with it. :)
