Is your hair supposed to be relaxed before using the flat iron?

no. naturals or texturised ladies also flat iron. the only thing is that if one isnt careful, the flat iron may damage natural hair....permanently

no...when flat ironing just make sure u use a good heat protectant (theres liquid and creams). depending on your desired effect there are different techniques...for example some ppl rollerset before, while others blowdry before flat ironing

hi ladies--i need help.  i have a 5 yr old daughter who is bi-racial.  she has very beatiful, soft hair which "poofs" up when i allow if to dry naturally.  i feel that she is way too young for her hair to be relaxed, but she has been bugging me for "straight" hair.  my question is.... does her hair need to be relaxed b4 we use a flat iron, or should the flat iron do the trick?  also too, if i use the flat iron, what is the best heat protectant on the market? thanks so much!

Your doesn't need to be relaxed a flat iron will straighten hair that
isn't relaxed.Silicones protect against hot flat irons and curling
irons because it
seals and smoothes the hair cuticles layers, silicones end in the word cone.ic
hair polisher mist protects against hot flat irons and blowdryers,it's
sold at Walgreens and beauty supply stores.Overuse of silicones can
cause build up.Some Hispanic Puerto Ricans and some Samoans have the
same Biracial[part Black part White]hair. Please press search and
read my post on
bubble hair.

I like to use Matrix Sleek.Look Iron Smoother or Biosilk Silk Therapy but if you want one without alcohol you can try TiGi - Catwalk Fashionista Smooth and Shine Heat and Iron Safe.

Girl, I've been thinking the same thing. It's good info, but Jean does seem to have a fixation w/ "bubble hair".

hey kate..welcome

no the hair doesnt need to be relaxed. your right i think she maybe too young for relaxing . When she's older more informed about hair, relxaing then she can make that decision. but for now you can do several things roller set her hair, then flat iron it or blowdry then flat iron it (this is harsher though on the hair). If you use a flat iron get a ceramic one (there espensive but worth it). Some good heat protectants I've heard about redken heat glide, Matrix iron smoother, elasta qp mango butter, ntm serum, L'oreal Smooth Intense Serum, L'Oreal Nature's Therapy heat Control Leave-In Protection Creme, TCB HeatSense. some of theses may have certain ingredients like silicones and so forth so becareful with whatever u choose. If you need more info do a "search" on the entire board and you should get some links about it.

goodluck
