I posted about this under another topic too.

I went in today...to a place that advertised that they specialized in color...to get more highlights added and roots done.  She talked about different ways to go about the process and decided on cap highlighting.  This is what I've had done in the past, but hadn't been happy with how it looked when I got the roots done last time...that's why I decided to go to a 'colorist' .  She did the cap highlights, put me under the dryer and then when she took the cap off at the sink, she rinsed then took a paintbrush and painted the same highlighter chemical (I guess bleach??) on areas of my roots to lighten them.  She only left that on for a minute or so, not under the dryer.  Now,  the color is lighter overall than I planned on, but I think I like the color... it feels very dry and brittle, especially in the back AND I have these dark horizontal lines just under the top layer of hair that just look horrible.  Now I'm reading about 'fried' hair just breaking off and I am more worried!  Have I ruined my hair?  Is it going to start falling out or breaking off?! How can I fix these horizontal stripes? My hair is fine, straight and all one length, just below chin length.

Now what??

Don't worry too much about your hair falling out - but it may break off.

You need to deep condition - your hair should feel much softer after you do and will put some moisture into it.

Could you post a picture of your hair at the back, as I'm unsure what you mean by the horizontal stripes.

If it's not breaking off yet, you'll probably be okay providing you take extra care of it from now on (I wouldn't heat style, straighten, blow dry on a hot setting - anything like that).  You will probably just have to keep up with trimming it to remove dead ends.

I don't understand what you mean exactly about the stripes either....if it really looks bad you may want to go back to her to get her to fix it.

If you can't see the dark horizontal stripes underneath the top layer, then don't do anything.  But, since you paid for roots with highlights, it sounds like she didn't get all of the roots underneath.  I would let her know, maybe get a discount on your next hair visit, and go to another stylist in that same salon.

Personally, I wouldn't go back to that salon, and just live with the results for a couple of weeks, until it's time to do the roots again.  It's too bad they claim that they "specialize in color".  Boo to them.
