I've had my hair like this for years. I tried cutting it very short once and I looked horrible. I will never do that again. These pics are from two weeks after another really bad hair cut. (I've been trying barbers/hairstylists looking for someone who knows what they're doing.) This cut actually does look decent when done right. But that only happens with maybe one out of five haircuts with the best person I found, and I think it's time for a change anyway. I'm looking for a more mature, matte style. I really hate messy, gelled styles, although I'd consider them if they would look best. Also, I'm wondering what shape face I have and what cuts go best with it--isn't there a science to this? http://www.thisisnecessary.com/hb/3.jpg -

Here's what I'm thinking:

my observations:

i would bring the  hair down more. like where it fades from very short to very long, or simply let it be alittle longer on the sides.

this will help take away from a long look of the face and bring out/accentuate your jaw line.

with the picture you gave....it almost looks like you could style your hair now just like that....except those curls you have will be hard to work with....a hair cut wont fix that though.....maybe straightener or relaxer...apply then style just like that guys hair....it will fry your hair out a a little bit and remove the curls/wave/cowlick right there up front.....but yeh i think you got that hair cut already....just style it like that.....let it go longer on the sides....and bring the fade down lower....and less abrupt(short to long)

My face doesn't look nearly as long in real life as it does in those pictures. Look at the 3rd pic and you'll see it's not quite so long. I don't know why close ups always come out like that with my camera.

I actually tried that style yesterday, and it came out pretty well. There were a couple problems though. 1) It took at least a dollar's worth of Sharper In Control fiber wax to get it that way. 2) After a while, the hair in the middle of my head started poofing up. 3) Other parts of my hair refused to stay in place. 4) I looked like I was about to hit a club or a formal event; the look won't do for just any day of the week.

Those curls aren't really curls. It's just the natural way my hair falls down after I stick up the front with some kind of hair product. After I wash my hair, it dries straight.

Now I'm considering a razor cut, although I only have a rough understanding of what that is. If my hair were thinned out a little, I'm sure it would be more manageable. I spend so much time just working to get it down.

Thanks for the ideas.

oh yeh...thinning/texturizing/razor cuttin should do the trick right

I cant believe your hair drys straight...."2) After a while, the hair in the middle of my head started poofing up."  see.

you also might try pomade/wax  i hate the greasy feel but it reduces frizzyness and poofs

Granted, this is from 10 years ago, but it's only clear picture I have around in which I have nothing in my hair. My hair is still like that, just much shorter obviously.

Anyone else? I was hoping for a few ideas.
