After I had my daughter, my left temple area started to thin from postpartum shedding.  I basically just stopped wearing my hair pulled back so tighty on that side and I massaged the area twice daily.  Every other day, I would massage the area with stimulating essential oils (rosemary, and peppermint).  I also made sure to tie my hair up with a satin scarf each night

Do you know what is causing your thin sides?  Braids?  Sleeping on that particular side? Wrapping?

am not sure whats casuing it but it's just never grown out. i.ve got a bald spot because of pick n drop braids that i had in january i use rosemary oil and massage it in at night now but it still looks the same, i've tryed ors temple creme n dat didnt work to well i've got braids in now but nt on my sides cos the hair's so thin that the braids would pull them off and if i wear my braids up i always make sure that the side are not pulled out all.

i just read about nioxin follicle booster but i dnt know if this will work cos nothing has so far n for £15.00 i dnt want to waste my money

I really think you need to find what exactly is causing your problems with this area.   I am sure some of the other ladies will be able to suggest some stimulating treatments- but once you know the source of your troubles you'll be able to prevent further problems or reoccuring instances of this in the future.  No need to grow it back in only to have it act up later on down the line.

What is your general regimen like as far as products (protein/moisturizers/shampoos, etc), heat use, and daily styling?

My crown was thinning out really really bad from relaxers and wearing ponytails alot.  I added rosemary to my conditioners and oils (thanks to the ladies on this forum), and its alot thicker now. I just started doing that in January. Also I stopped relaxing.

I had a problem with thinning sides due to wearing too many ponytails over the years day and night.  I think it put too much stress on my hair basically.

So now I have my hair in loose braids at night and oil my sides with WGO to promote growth.  I'm seeing results from this 3 months in.  I will try other daytime non stress styles such as bantu knots as soon as I get the hang of them!

Try locating a health food store.  Or a place like Vitamin Shoppe, which has a organic section and essential oils section.

My edges got torn out because of braids, in Jan. I used rosemary to grow them back. Although they are not completely back as yet, it helped a lot! And I also think vitamins as a lot to do with it. I just started Horsetail in Feb, and by the begining of March I was able to get my edges in braids. (I did them bigger and very loose this time).

Oh, yeah, I also use WGO. HTH

BeautyWitch

tell me about the Horestail  tablets? liquid? how much? how often? Had you used it before with success?

Well I got them at GNC for $7.99. I take 1 per day (500mg) and I drink a lot of water. I read that you are not suppose to take them for more than three weeks at a time because it could be dangerous to your health. (when I find the link I'll post it). I just sarted them on the 1st of March and will only take them for 3 wks and stop for about 3 just to be on the safe side. So far I have experienced alto of  growth, when I take my braids out I will measure it. No, I have never used it before, but this is the person who inspired me to try it: http://www.reniece.com/ - www.reniece.com

Edited to say: Damn Sistaslick, you're killing me with all that  hair!!! Everytime I see it I get anxious. ***can.t wait for mine to look like that***

Did a search: sorry it's so long.

Horsetail is a unique plant with two distinctive types of stems.

Common names: Bottlebrush plant, Shave grass, Scouring rush

Botanical name: Equisetum arvense

Horsetail has been used in connection with the following conditions http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=1170003 - Brittle nails , http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=1210002 - Edema (water retention) , http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=1049006 - Osteoarthritis , http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=1050006 - Osteoporosis , http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=1283006 - Urinary tract infection , http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=1056000 - Wound healing (topical)

Active constituents

Horsetail is rich in silicic acid and silicates, which provide approximately 2–3% elemental http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=2909002 - silicon . http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=2898000 - Potassium , aluminum, and http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=2881000 - manganese , along with fifteen different types of http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=2844004 - flavonoids , are also found in this herb. The presence of these flavonoids, as well as saponins, is believed to cause the diuretic effect, while the silicon content is thought to exert a connective tissue-strengthening and anti-arthritic action. Some experts have suggested the element silicon in horsetail is also a vital component for bone and cartilage formation. Anecdotal reports suggest that horsetail may be of some use in the treatment of http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=1170003 - Brittle nails .

Are there any side effects or interactions?

Horsetail is generally considered safe. The only concern would be that the correct species of horsetail is used. Equisetum palustre is another species of horsetail, which contains toxic alkaloids and is a well-known livestock poison. Due to a lack of clear safety information, horsetail should be avoided during http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=1251000 - pregnancy and breast-feeding.

The Canadian Health Protection Branch requires supplement manufacturers to document that their products do not contain the enzyme thiaminase, found in crude horsetail, which destroys the B vitamin http://library.gnc.com/health_notes/healthnotes.aspx?ContentId=2923000 - thiamine . Since alcohol, temperature, and alkalinity neutralize this potentially harmful enzyme, tinctures, fluid extracts, or preparations of the herb subjected to 100°C temperatures during manufacturing are preferred for medicinal use.

GNC sells Avalon's Organic Rosmany Shampoo and conditioner, that's what I've been using, but only for a week so no news yet.

All of these methods are good methods to stimulate growth. I know tight braids can cause hair to break off from the temple area sometimes, I myself had thinning edges after keeping braids in too much. An effective way to help with thinning hair is to massage the scalp daily, take a good supplement such as biotin, just last week I started using Mane N Tail regular shampoo, and I have already noticed new growth and my hair is thicker, stronger, and much shinier, and sulfur8 also helps stimulate new growth...
