Recently, I had this crazy idea that I would go from a brunette to a blond. my stylist did it and afterwards my hair was falling out in huge globs. My hair feels like straw and we even cut off about 5 inches because it was so damaged. I have been using protein shampoos and conditioners and even resorted to some home remedies to try and get it back to semi-normal. I can no longer flat iron it or curl it even, my hair is very frizzy and literally it looks like I have a head of straw. its sad because I have been growing it out forever to give away and now I cant. can anyone give me any advice on how to repair it first of all and second what you think my next steps would be...thank you so much!

The very best thing to do is to go to your yellow pages in the phone book and look for Redken salons.  Ask if they have the "Chemistry System".  When you find one Run to it!!!!

The Chemistry System is a very advanced system of reconditioning unlike I have ever seen in my whole 19 year carreer.  It is extremely powerful...so powerful..that I had to sign releases to get it.  Redken is very selective on who gets it.

The system is a reconditioning system that is applied by the stylist and takes about 15 minutes and should cost about 25 dollars.  It stays in the hair for 4-6 weeks.

Find this quick!!

Let me know if you find one.

I'm so sorry that happened.Sadly hair doesnt heal. But you can mask the damage with lots of conditioner. The protein treatments are good for filling in porous strands. That reconditioning treatment would probably help alot.It should definitely give your hair a healthier look and feel. And If you were going to donate it,I'm pretty sure most places wont take hair thats been processed in any form.I think they only take virgin hair.Like I said before you can mask the damge and slowly cut it out.But you will have to baby it as you've been doing. No heat, always use conditioner, gentle shampoo's(stay away from anything with laureth in it.Lauryl is much gentler though).Good luck:)

Thank you all for your input. I think I am going to end up cutting it off as much as I can bear. but first I am going to try that redeken treatment if I can find a place that does it. If I can get it manageable then I will keep it. right now after a few hours of it being down it is a snarly mess so I just cant handle it for much longer.thank you again..I will keep everyone posted:)

Technology of hair has come a very long way.  Don't discount the thought of hair healing.

Ya know, they heal bones with artificial devices now.  Think about it.
They repair fingernails with acrylics.
So why not hair?

Just a thought for today.
