Pretty much my entire life I've had really short hair, usually not anything more than two inches. But I was wondering if it were possible for me to get hair like this:

I really like the messy look this guy has in his hair, and I wanted to know if I could get a similar look in my hair. Here are some pictures of me:

Pardon the idiotic looks in both of those pictures.

Anyway, would I need to grow out my hair longer to get that style? Or, am I simply doing the style incorrectly. I use got2b glued screaming hold glue and shortsexyhair styling gunk. Do you have any advice for how I could get this hairstyle?

Thanks. If you need more pictures, etc., ask.

*EDIT* Sorry, I accidentally deleted the pictures from my photobucket. The pictures work now.

Yeah i'm pretty sure you'd have to grow out your hair a little longer, some his spikes look kind of tall. I mean his hair goes down to his eyebrows and yours is no where near that. His hair looks fairly straight and so does yours, so i'm sure you could do it. Probably need some strong wax or gel.

Yes, with some growing out, and presuming you have straight/SLIGHTLY wavy hair, it will work out just fine.

Alright, thank you all very much for the advice so far. Yes, I do have straight hair, so it's good to know this is possible. But I do have one more question. Unfortunately, my hair grows almost directly outward, giving my hair a 'poofy' effect (or 'Chia pet effect,' as I've been told) ESPECIALLY on the sides of my head. If I grow my hair out, will that poofyness go away now that I will have longer hair?

Thanks,

-Ajay

Most likely. Once the hair grows longer, the weight of the ends will naturally pull your hair down. I know what you mean, it's like a "soft afro" right? Mine grows outwards too. Once you get it longer and find it still needs a bit of taming, using a pomade will keep it under wraps. You're lucky you have straight hair, it will make this style so much easier to work with, shape, and hold!!

Yeah, it is exactly like a "soft afro." Don't you agree it's incredibly annoying when it's short and poofs out like that? It's freaking impossible to work with. Thanks for the advice!

Dont worry,my hair is now over 5" and it still "soft fro's" out on me.. But that was when i was shampooing everyday and had dry hair, my hair is getting better now because i changed cleansing techniques.
Hopefully my dry hair will be gone soon

What exactly are these new cleansing techniques you speak of? I mean, I shampoo and condition my hair practically every day, just because my hair stays extremely soft that way. But I bet that is also probably really bad for my hair. Do you have any suggestions or maybe a regimen? Thank you kindly.

Thanks again,

-Ajay

Ajay, maybe you'd do well with the routine under the thread that Adamsnez started.. it's in the same Teen forum.

i gave in on the fifth day and shampooed my hair, was starting to feel dirty a bit. remember, everyone's hair is different, so try other methods if this does not improve anything! im still in the experiments myself and this is the first thing i've tried. good luck!

It looks like the guy in the photo uses wax or some type of styling product anyway so that itself should get rid of the afro effect.
